The players assigned to Hamilton include forwards Alexander Avtsin, Alain Berger, Michael Blunden, Michael Bournival, Gabriel Dumont, Brendan Gallagher, Blake Geoffrion, Patrick Holland, Louis Leblanc, Philippe Lefebvre, Joonas Nattinen, Steve Quailer and Ian Schultz, defencemen Nathan Beaulieu, Morgan Ellis, Brendon Nash, Greg Pateryn, Joe Stejskal and Jarred Tinordi and goaltenders Peter Delmas and Robert Mayer. The Bulldogs begin training camp on Saturday, September 29th in Sherbrooke, Quebec and will play two exhibition games against the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, October 6th in Cobourg, Ontario and on Monday, October 8th in Brantford, Ontario. The Bulldogs’ 17th season-opener is scheduled for Saturday, October 13th at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they will play the Griffins. ULLDOGS SIGN CHAPUT, FORTIER AND LEVEILLE By: Hamilton Bulldogs 09/18/2012 10:52 AM - MONTREAL, QC – Montreal Canadiens Executive Vice President and General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Hamilton Bulldogs have signed Stefan Chaput, Olivier Fortier and Daultan Leveille to one-year, two-way American Hockey League / ECHL contracts for the 2012-2013 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed. Chaput, 24, has played 164 regular season games over five seasons in the AHL for the Providence Bruins, Syracuse Crunch, Charlotte Checkers and Albany River Rats registering 71 points (24 goals, 47 assists), 51 penalty minutes and a +11 rating. The native of Montreal, Quebec spent four seasons with the Lewiston MAINEiacs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League posting 168 points (71 goals, 97 assists), 145 penalty minutes and a +51 rating in 196 games. The 6’0”, 190-pound centre was second in scoring for the MAINEiacs in 2007-2008 with 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) while also ranking in goals. Chaput was originally selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round, 153rd overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Fortier, 23, has played 106 regular season games over parts of three seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs registering 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) and 46 penalty minutes. In 2010-2011, the 5’11”, 181-pound centre tied for third on the ‘Dogs in rookie scoring with 20 points while ranking second in goals scored by a rookie with nine. The native of Quebec City, Quebec played three seasons with the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL notching 161 points (65 goals, 96 assists) and 107 penalty minutes in 205 games. Fortier was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round, 65th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Leveille, 22, played four seasons with Michigan State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association recording 69 points (26 goals, 43 assists) and 50 penalty minutes in 131 regular season games. In 2008-2009 as a rookie with Michigan State, Leveille was second in team scoring with 19 points (nine goals, eight assists) while also being an Honourable Mention selection to the CCHA All-Rookie Team. The native of St. Catharines, Ontario played two seasons with the St. Catharines Falcons of the Golden Horseshoe Jr. “B” Hockey League / Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League from 2006-2008. In 93 games, the 6’0”, 175-pound centre had 101 points (48 goals, 53 assists) and 38 penalty minutes. swansee Posted September 21, 2012 Author Report Share Posted September 21, 2012 Three more on the way......(From today's Montreal Gazette) Random thoughts while waiting for the NHL and its players to resume talking: Bulldogs add trio: The Canadiens have figured out a way to keep goaltender Cédrick Desjardins, defenceman Frédéric St-Denis and forward Aaron Palushaj employed during the lockout. The three weren't among the 21 players assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs, but they will be with the American Hockey League club when it opens its training camp next week. All three have two-way contracts and would normally have to clear NHL waivers before being assigned to Hamilton. The Canadiens delayed placing them on waivers because they feared another team would put in a claim. But an informal agreement between the AHL, the NHL and the players' association will allow the players to join the Bulldogs after signing AHL contracts. The option is available to players who were on AHL clear-day lists that would have allowed them to play in last season's AHL playoffs. Palushaj played 38 games for the Canadiens last season, while St-Denis played 17. Desjardins, who signed his first contract with Hamilton in 2006, was in the Colorado organization last season and returned to the Canadiens as a free agent July 1. He posted a 2-0-0 record in his only NHL action with Tampa Bay in the 2010-11 season. He beat the Canadiens 4-1 in his NHL debut. St Denis-Nash Tinordi-Ellis Beaulieau-Qaulier Desjardins Delmas/Mayer The 4th line will probably be Holland centering Stortini at RW and Kyle Hagel at LW.Quailer can play all three forward positions,other defencemen are Pateryn and Stejskal both RDmen.I hope that helps Schultz is a RW that is learning to play at the front of the net and deflects pucks past the goalie his specialty(besides fighting). I think canadiens.com is missing something here. Im really curious about Steve Quailer... He has yet to be sent down to Cincinatti. He must be having a pretty good camp. When a player plays college hockey, you don't really know much about him. He's better than I thought as well, apparently he had nice stats in university(college?) as well. They might still make 1 or 2 more cuts to their forwards though. They likely have 3 goalies since apparently the Pens sent a goalie who is better than either Mayer or Delmas to Wheeling, so instead of sending either Mayer or Delmas to backup duties in the ECHL, the Dogs should just keep both as backups, unless we can send one of them to another ECHL team.
