chrisjamessauve
Can not wait to see if Galchenyuk makes the team, even if it's only 10 games before they send him back to Sarnia. How does everyone think Therrien will handle Gomez? God it feels great to talk Habs again!
Guest Regis2
I belive the Habs' roster is pretty much set They have to sign PK and then it pretty much looks like this http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/roster.htm Unless they can dump the dead weights : Gomez, Kaberle, Bourque

Lineup is set, it's simply about whether or not Elle gets promoted to top 6 as a winger or if he's kept at Centre on third line. Gomez ? Simply where to waste his contract. And if Markov is still a top 4 guy. I know those are fighting words. Just being realistic. Gorges is, Subban is, Emelin is, and Diaz is pushing. Again, likely fighting words to some. Gallagher is the only one not on the roster with a legit shot. But I expect him to be given a look when Gomez continues to prove to be the highest paid player per goal in the history of the NHL. Pretty sure MB is on record for saying he will get a look. I wouldn't discount the possibility that we try and waive Gomez early on to see if there are takers. I know we don't need the cap space this year, but it would open up a roster spot if management deems Gally to be ready to step in. It wouldn't take much to replace Scott's production, based on his last couple of seasons.

Personally, I only expect Galchenyuk to get a sniff but if Bergevin can swing a deal for Gomez I wouldn't be surprised if Alex spent the year with the Habs. Bud2790
I'd rather Galchenyuk stay in Sarnia. IMO, there's no reason to burn a year off his ELC and a year off his free agency eligibility for a shortened season.

IMO, there's no reason to burn a year off his ELC and a year off his free agency eligibility for a shortened season. If he does get a tryout (which is expected) and blows the coaching staff away, it will be almost impossible to send him back without a huge backlash from fans and media. Bud2790
I haven't heard anything about a tryout. They're inviting him to camp, but he'll have barely a couple of days to prove he's worth a shot. If he makes the team or gets a tryout, he better be playing top 6 minutes, or top 9 minutes with some PP time. Sticking him in a defensive role would make absolutely no sense. But again, IMO, there's no reason to have him in Montreal for a shortened season.

It would only make sense that if they go to the trouble of bringing him to camp that they would have a good look at him. I expect that would go beyond a couple of pre season games to get a good feel but who knows.

I agree although there may only be 1 if any pre season games so if he looks good in camp he may get some games while others catch up to their conditioning and then go from there, who knows at this point
Guest
According to the press conference today,,,,the main goal is to have Gally experience his first NHL training camp. Whether that translates into the possibility of him playing any games, remains to be seen. I have no doubt he'll look better then a lot of guys who haven't seen a game yet so i too would expect he sticks around for an extra week or two at least. I wonder if Gallagher will also get a look. It would make sense to see where he's at in his development in the event we run into early injury problems. It's reported the Leafs will have 30 guys in camp, and i suspect we'll also have close to that in the early going.
I1IscottieI1I
if gally shows he is ready for the nhl it could be more beneficial to have him playing on our second line with pleky and gionta then having him play with players of lesser quality in the ohl. hes already proven he can dominate the ohl i think hes done that stage of his development

There has been some talk that there may not be any pre season games They may bring some of these players to camp just for the sake of having intra squad games -
KeepsItReal
Jeez, what's up with Leblanc? Talk about a disappointing sophomore season. I'd love to see Galchenyuk get a shot on a 3rd line, at left wing of: Galchenyuk-Eller-Bourque I know some don't like Bourque, but he's a big body who can throw his weight around and create space. This could be the perfect thing for Galchenyuk.

Bud2790
Interesting. We already have 7 returning defensemen (assuming we sign PK) from last year + Bouillon.

Bud2790
A few quotes from Therrien about Galchenyuk in an Eric Engels interview "We drafted him as a big centre, and that's what we want him to be," quipped Therrien. I prodded further by asking whether or not Galchenyuk needed to be one of the best centres in camp, or just one of the best twelve forwards in order to stick. His answer: "Nothing wrong with starting on the fourth line." That really scares me. There's no way would playing with Moen/Prust/Armstrong/White be a good move for his development. If he makes the team, in the worst case I would want him with Eller on the 3rd line but also have him see some PP time. Anything less just doesn't make much sense for his development IMO. Aussie6898
Well seems like the defence is pretty set except for signing Subban but the big question marks are up front. We have Gomez and Bourque who will need easy minutes while the Pacman- DD - Cole line will help offensively. The second is then Pleks - Gionta and Who? Will Eller be up to the second line or will gallagher or Geoffrion get the spot. A worry is also that some of our guys In Europe like Diaz, Emelin, Weber say there. Although Weber no one really cares about, the other two would make a difference not having them back.
Bud2790
I think it'll probably be something like this Pac-DD-Cole Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta Gomez-Eller-Moen Prust-White-Armstrong I don't think Gallagher is ready yet, although he did great in camp before last season, he hasn't looked that great in Hamilton. Is Geoffrion back from his major injury? If Galchenyuk makes the team, I think White gets scratched, Gomez centers the 4th line, and Gally plays 2nd or 3rd line LW. Edit: And I haven't heard anything about Diaz, Emelin, Weber not coming back.
