MONTREAL CANADIENS

Season series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams. The Senators cruised to a 5-1 win against the Canadiens on Jan. 30 at Scotiabank Place.

Big story: Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban made his season debut Saturday afternoon, helping his club earn a 6-1 victory against the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre. Subban had an assist and a plus-1 rating in 18:01 of ice time.

Team scope:

Senators: Ottawa suffered a setback after last Wednesday’s impressive showing against the Canadiens, as the Sens were blanked in a 1-0 loss at Carolina on Friday. Dan Ellis stopped all 33 shots he faced for the Hurricanes.

"It was much like I thought it would be," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said. "It was a fast game and they went up and down the rink, and both teams skated. They got one and we got none. I thought both goalies played well and both special teams were either unlucky or the penalty killers were good. But I thought it was a good game."

Canadiens: One of the biggest reasons why the Habs failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2011-12 was their home record, as Montreal finished the season just one game above the .500 mark (16-15-10). New coach Michel Therrien is trying to rectify that, and thus far has been successful – with Saturday’s win, the Canadiens improved to 4-1-0 on home ice this season.

"I always believed this is the greatest place to play," Therrien said. "We have to play a game where we're pushing the pace, because I believe our team has speed. And pushing the pace makes it difficult on everyone. When we talk about being tough to play against, it's not only the physical aspect. It's our work ethic, our decisions with the puck, all these little things make teams tough to play against. Right now our team is buying into that."

Who’s hot: Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson was named the NHL’s First Star for January. He is 5-1-1 and has not allowed a goal after the first period in any of his seven appearances. … Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov has eight points (four goals, four assists) in seven games, while fellow blueliner Raphael Diaz has eight assists, and (after todays game) a whole bunch of other guys

:D

Injury report: Ottawa is without Jason Spezza (back), Jared Cowen (hip) and Mike Lundin (broken finger). … The Canadiens are missing Max Pacioretty (appendicitis) and Petteri Nokelainen (back).

Well done, kinot! Classy and informative as usual.

Huge opportunity for redemption. Ottawa may be 'rested' but we should be rolling, IMO. Chance to make a mark in the division and keep pace with the top of the Conference pack.

GO HABS GO!

Ok, I didn't comment on Clues' great GDT yesterday and she won so I'm gonna hope to start a winning trend by not commenting on Kinot's great GDT for today's game. :)

Still waiting for news on Pacman and what the lines will be, although all indications are that he will be playing... my feeling is that Eller stays on the DD line today and Pacman eases his way back in with 3rd line minutes, but who knows.

Pacman with the Gallys will be dangerous. :D

I liked yesterday´s shifts with Eller and the Kids :-)

Go Gallys Go...I mean, Go Habs Go :-D

Yes, I liked that too, and that will hopefully be what happens later but some people want to ease Pacman in the lineup, and if that's the case him with the Gallys will be nice.

just seems to me that it's cough and you'll find moen there for today's game. i don't guess that's too much help to anyone, even dyed in the wool moen fans, but since that's my thought.....there it is.

GO HABS!

WOW,,,holey-moley,,,,warm-up?,,,might play?..

BTW,,,anyone know about our D,,,,6 or 7?

According to Francois Gagnon, the Habs will go with 6 D today. Apparently, the decision is being left up to Pacman after warm-up as to whether he can play, which means he'll almost definitely be in. White likely to be scratched again if Pacman is a go, although conceivable Armstrong could sit too.

According to Renaud Lavoie, Kaberle is the player waiting to find out if Pacman is a go.

TKS, Ted,,guess we'll have to wait and see at puck drop.

Pacioretty is warming up with DD and Cole, so he's almost certainly in. Eller is centering Moen and Armstrong on the 4th line. So that answers that.

As much as Id like to see Eller continue getting good minutes, Moen and Armstrong are not your usual breed of 4th liners & as long as they get decent minutes, this is not a terrible demotion for Lars. At least he gets to go back to the position he's most comfortable at.

This was essentially our 3rd line last year. On occasion, Eller and Moen both played in the top 6. Sadly, a sign of what RC had to work with.
