Exactly this. Our hot start was simply over-achieving against mostly low-tier teams, nothing more. Our goalie is solid (& can't be blamed today, what with most of the game being played on our end), our D is decent but a bit young yet, and our offence absolutely stinks.

Repeat of last year. Yay.

No blaming Carey at all here. First goal was a brutal turnover by Markov followed by a bad DZone decision by Emelin leading to a goal Price had no chance to save. Second goal came on a rebound while the DD line (if I saw the jerseys correctly) just stood around and watched the Leaf player put it into the net and Price desperately tried to go post to post.

You're right, Cole lost his man on the 2nd.

Meet the new Montreal Canadiens, same as the old Montreal Canadiens.

This is us, people. Not the team that started the season hot. This is who we are. And as a systems coach, Therrien is awful. It's clear from the way guys like Gorges and Subban are actually regressing under his coaching.

It's one bad period, we've had 8 good games. We can play better than this.

We've lost two straight and haven't frankly looked particularly good for ten days now. There is no scoring, because the majority of our supposed top-six forwards aren't, well, scoring. Cole, Gionta, DD, Pacioretty -- all in slumps. Therrien has made a mess of the D pairings and we are not even able to sustain OZone pressure, let alone generate quality chances with any regularity. And there is no injury excuse to use; the whole team is healthy. It's not the end of the season, but we simply can't afford to go on protracted losing streaks. In a 48-game season, a three-game losing streak is actually serious.

I agree with everything you are saying but I am trying to remain positive. My hope is that we will wake up & take over this game the next two periods. I hate the Laffs more than any other team.

haha I'm totally with you there, except change "trying to remain positive" to "realistic". (for the season, not this game)

Oversimplification. A win doesn't mean you played a great 60 minutes. We haven't been playing well for a number of games now. And the question isn't whether we can play better than this -- of course we can, all teams can -- it's whether we can consistently play better than this. Even the worst team in the league will go on a win streak now and again. Doesn't mean they're suddenly a playoff contender.
