I wonder if this is an AHL only deal or if they think he'll be a viable backup to Carey next year

IMO, I would hope that that is what MB has in mind, because as far as I know,,,there's nothing in the pipeline.

Anyways, back to real talk... This kid is quite simply a winner, he comes up huge whenever the team needs it most.

Won the memorial cup with Spokane.

Won gold for Canada in the world juniors.

Incredible playoff statistics in the AHL.

Sounds good to me.

Woot! sounds good to me... I figure he will be back up for Carey in the near future if he pans out. Peter Budaj days may be out #.

Peter is only signed for this year. Unless he get's an extension, we will be looking next year.

Ok in the future as in next year... if Budaj doesn't come back and Tokarski plays well in the AHL.... He could be the back up we are looking for at a cheaper price.

I'm liking this more and more as the day goes on, if he can live up to his billing he would be a great compliment to Price. The future of the game isn't riding your guy for 75 games IMO, if we can get someone who can be relied on for 20-25 games you will have a fresh Price down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Like i mentioned in the Budaj thread, i think the habs just acquired next seasons back up.

Some scouts still believe this kid could be an NHL goalie. He could learn a lot from being Carey's backup. Not a bad trade, not like Desjardin was going anywhere.

Welcome to the organization kid!

Gotta love those Leaf fans with their comments of Price's successor. They wish.

They still think Toskala was a great tender and that cujo should be in the HOF.

I really liked cujo as a tender. Did well in St Louis and Edmonton, but i wouldn't call him an elite tender with a HOF career.

And Toskala couldn't leave NA fast enough.

Not a bad move. For both players. I think if we have Dustin up next year he could learn alot and we could have a tradeable asset. Desjardins is supposedly highly regarded in Tampa and may finally get some extended time in the show, I think he can handle playing in the NHL and could be a decent back up in a low stress market like Tampa.

Nope, nothing.

That's one area where Montreal has been strong the last 20-30 years. Since Carey, they haven't drafted a real promsing prospect for the nets.

Since taking Carey I can only remember them drafting 1 goalie, Missiaen, huge kid who wasn't even tendered a contract. I'm probably forgetting a late round pick or 2 but there definitely hasn't been a premium on it. Goaltending is the easiest and cheapest position to fill and stock an organization with and we happen to have 1 of the elite ones in the league who's still only 25. I can see why it's low priority but I'd still like to see a few more late round fliers taken on guys, hope to find the next Ludnqvist or Rinne, even another Halak. Could provide some cheap years at backup and then nice trade value.

The way I see it now is if Price stays healthy they wont need another for 10 years or so.
