BeanCountingHab
Magnus Nygren Age: 22 DOB: 1990/06/07 POB: Karlstad, Sweden Height: 6-1 Weight: 192lbs Shoots: R NHL Seasons: 0 Drafted by Montreal in 2011 (4/113) This guy is tearing it up in the SEL this year. Decent size, right handed, having success in a professional league with men. Could be a sleeper.
Guest
Talent Analysis Nygren excels with the man advantage, where he is able to get his big shot on goal with consistency and demonstrates noteworthy offensive awareness. Relatively experienced for a 2011 draftee due to his age, the Swedish blueliner still has plenty to learn on the defensive side of the game and is hampered by limited mobility. He is highly competitive however, and on the ice, is willing to do what he has to in order to help the team. Future Nygren still has another year left on his contract in Sweden so the Canadiens have until June 2013 to decide if they should sign him to an entry level contract. He has the right attitude and raw talent to make the NHL, but still needs to improve his skating and defensive play.

Guest
#Habs prospect Magnus Nygren, 22, awarded with Salming Trophy as best d-man in Swedish Elite League. "He's a modern d," Börje Salming said.

Can confirm that he Will play the rest of the season in AHL, top top guy and a great player, still thinks he needs one more year to be better in the defence but he has improved alot this year. Wildster
Forget what i said.. Magnus ''Nygga'' Nygren tweeted this for a couple of minutes ago Magnus Nygren @Magnusnygrenn18m Sjukaste jag varit med om. Wich is translated: Sickest thing i've been through, I stand here with my luggage done and ready to go. Then i get a call and the trip is cancelled. To much yap and trouble from FBK(Färjestad). Thank you so much for this, was really looking forward to it. So from what I'm getting from this is that he was all packed up and ready to come over to North America, but he had to cancel atlast minute because his swedish team Farjestad was giving him too much trouble with his decision? BeanCountingHab
Ugh, what a pain. It would have been interesting to have him in reserve for the playoffs.

So from what I'm getting from this is that he was all packed up and ready to come over to North America, but he had to cancel atlast minute because his swedish team Farjestad was giving him too much trouble with his decision? Translation: I didn't get the whole truth yesterday and it was a shame, Farjestad has not try to stop this. Montreal had never done this with a non contracted player and they thinks that it was to complicated. Färjestad speaked today and said that Nygren can go if Montreal pays the player insurance. Think that Nygrens agent said that everything was done but apparantly it wasn't.

Corazu
I was just going to post here that I found out it was an insurance issue (via twitter) but I guess you already know that now. I can see why they might not bother, there's only a few games left in the season and it's not like they're making a push for the playoffs. On the other hand, the organization has money and it can't be that much to insure him...would be a nice gesture and to get a look at him..

I can't imagine what he must be going through. he still has a long way to go to make it to the NHL, but this is a huge step. It sucks for him, but the habs have signed him, so it's just a matter of time now. We should see him in Hamilton in the fall or even in pre-season action. Welcome to the organization and good luck kid, can't wait to see what you bring.

Inquisitive
I think there's been a mix-up... He has not yet been signed, but I do have news to share with you all in this regard: It seems as though he's been made another offer... perhaps Bergevin is willing to pay the insurance after all. The article also mentions that the previous contract offer was only a AHL contract, but Bergevin has bumped it up to an NHL offer with his latest contract proposal. http://www.habsfuture.com/2013/04/the-canadiens-have-made-offer-to-nygren.html

It's a two year deal, two way contract. Nygren says in the article that he will head over to montreal for July 1st to participate in the rookie camp. Nygren has won the top defenceman award in his league and shows great all around two way ability, judging from what I've seen while watching a few games. kinot-1
Here's a highlight vid of him,,,,,,watch the one-timers and hits. Just a comment from 1 of the stories about him. "Here are the rules (Nygren Edition): Rule 1) Change your nickname. Try something that ends in -y. Like Maggy. Your nickname is now Maggy.Rule 2) Slapshots are good… except in shootouts. Your job in shootouts is to cheer on Gally.Rule 3) If Cube shoots the puck when you are open you get to punch him."
THEBIGGESTHABSFAN123
He's got one heck of a slapshot, good wrister too. And he can hit! I thought he would be like a Diaz with a potential higher upside, but if he's also physical that would be great.
NewfoundlandHab
Okay, i'm officially hyped on this guy. I agree with TBHF, I expected a slightly bigger version of Diaz with a bit higher potential. I thought he would be another offensive player who might be a defensive liability. At least he can throw some hits, has alright size and another booming slapshot. Potential to be a poor mans PK? Fortunately we have both!
