hatethosebruins
I sure hope this is ok to post in here instead of the coyotes thread where it can get more traffic. Darren Dreger ✔ @DarrenDreger NHL continues to fight to keep Yotes in Glendale, however, relocation decision could take player before the playoffs. #TSN Darren Dreger ✔ @DarrenDreger Quebec City, Seattle and Kansas City among relocation sites. Aside from conference issues, Que City appears best fit. Far from done deal... Darren Dreger ✔ @DarrenDreger NHL will continue to meet prospective buyers, but it's clear time is running out and relocation must be considered. Dreger is reporting that the NHL is beginning to look at relocating the coyotes. About time to get this black eye away. Not moving the team 2 years ago was a terrible mistake, and after multiple failed deals its just made the league look hard headed.
kinot-1
It won't be Quebec, (although it should be),,,,,NHL doesn't want another Canadian city. KC has been tried and failed after 2 years, so that IMO, leaves Seattle.
hatethosebruins
It won't be Quebec, (although it should be),,,,,NHL doesn't want another Canadian city. KC has been tried and failed after 2 years, so that IMO, leaves Seattle. IDK, reading some posts on hfboards opened this up to me, if the NHL truly has a few months to work this out, Quebec city is clearly the more viable option. Its a no brainer that the team will be successful as they already have a capable (albeit old) arena in the colisee, as well as a new one that is under construction. They also have a very stable hockey crazy ownership group lined up who have their own media empire. As well, with the US dollar and Canadian dollar being equal, the NHL will get a big boost to gate revenues since the team is a guaranteed sell out night after night (IIRC they already have all the corporate boxes sold in the new arena). Seattle on the other hand, needs an owner and an arena. At the moment theres a vote taking place at the end of april, to decide on building a new multipurpose arena in hopes that the NBA moves to seattle. Since its no secret Bettman is buddy-buddy with the NBA, I wouldnt be surprised to see Seattle being a very viable option if they are told to get an arena. But give them 1-2 years to find the ownership and prove that they can make the arena. Right now, Quebec makes more sense.
powerplay2009
It's an interesting question. I think a couple old WHA cities would go for it, and Quebec City just seems like the right fit to me. I have a relative in Seattle and she says that everyone just roots for the Canucks. While they would switch to rooting for Seattle, the question is how desperate Seattle is for a team. The population doesn't seem to much care, so I hope the league doesn't overestimate the value of a team there. Another positive for Seattle, though, is that there wouldn't be another round of realignment.
BigTed3
Dreger's credibility has fallen off somewhat in the past few months. Would take everything he says with a grain of salt. Renaud Lavoie reported today that he did not think the Coyotes were going to relocate anytime soon. Plus, with relalignment, it doesn't make a lot of sense for the league to move yet another team from West to East, as the Eastern divisions are already overloaded; I don't see how "another round of re-alignment" would help, short of moving Detroit and/or Columbus back out West. If the plan were really to move the Coyotes East, why bother with realigning now?
JeremyBresciani
If the plan were really to move the Coyotes East, why bother with realigning now? That was my thinking as well. Although I'd like to see a team back in Quebec, you'd have to think this came up during re-alignment talks...
