From the Sporting News:

Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe celebrated his 85th birthday Sunday at Joe Louis Arena in what's likely to be one of his last public appearances.

While his physical state remains strong, the Detroit Free Press' Helene St. James reports that Howe's mental health has drastically deteriorated.

Mark Howe tells the paper there was a noticeable decline in his dad's memory this past summer, to the point now where he's down to "two minutes, maybe five on a good day" of recalling events.

Too bad,,,,he was a great player.
