Guest
He's a big boy. Used sparingly in LA but the fans seemed to like him. Good depth move we hope.

Noob616
LA fans on HFboards had good things to say, he's probably a better option for depth than our rookies.
Guest
McGuire likes the trade... “He’s a trememdous depth player … 6-2 about 225 … one of the hardest-working players I’ve seen,” NBC hockey analyst Pierre McGuire told Mitch Melnick during his regular afternoon segment on TSN Radio 690. “Last year during the Stanley Cup final he never complained once. Now you’re talking about going four rounds, tons of travel, coast to coast. “Even by the Stanley Cup final, he was out there practising with Bernie Nicholls and he was just such a determined guy. He is one of those players that his work habits are infectious and impeccable. And so this is all about character more than anything else. “Is he a great player? No. But is he big, is he physical, is he robust? Yes. Is he going to cause problems? No. This is a very good acquisition I think.” McGuire said it’s a case of the Kings giving “a really good kid a great chance,” adding that “he’s going to want to prove a point.” “He’s just really stoic, but he’s just so full of energy and strong and well-built and well-conditioned,” McGuire said. “I endorse this. This is great. “He’s not going to be intimidated about playing in Montreal. … he’s a mature kid. He played a lot of huge games at Wisconsin.”
ChiLla
Well, I gotta be honest here. I've never actually heard of this guy – and I'm sure I'm not the only one – but welcome nonetheless!

You need to stay up for the 10:30 games more often. From what I recall of Kings games over the last few years, I think he'll be a perfectly fine 5/6 D who kills penalties. A reliable minute-eating guy. He was made mobile by the Regehr trade.
weepingminotaur
Pretty much the kind of cheap depth pickup I was expecting. Good enough for me, though it's annoying that he shoots left.

Well, yes, in that situation I wouldn't worry too much about the late games. While certainly not a blockbuster move, I don't think we'll be regretting this one in the near future. powerplay2009
Did he play in Wisconsin? I'm pretty biased, but I find that the "American college boys" a lot of people hate are actually great pickups, and play a very mature game. Granted, I'm a little biased. Anyway, I have no problems with this. I assume this means Tinordi won't come back up, and I would honestly look at playing him and having Kabs as the 7th D in the playoffs. Won't happen, but I would like to see it anyway.

BigTed3
Nothing against this guy, but I'd have a hard time believing there wasn't a better option available. He's big, but apparently not overly physical. He's a "veteran" but moreso a journeyman with no playoff experience. He's an addition for the 3rd pairing, but he's a lefty who doesn't really address our need for a righty nor for a guy who can play a shutdown role nor a guy who can play the second wave of the PP. Is he really any better than St-Denis? Is he going to give us anything more/superior to what we're already getting from Gorges or Bouillon? I honestly can't see Drewiske being asked to contribute to either special team (neither a top 4 defensive guy nor a top 4 offensive guy), which means he won't eat up minutes and likely won't help to support the other D men all that much. Maybe he'll turn into another Gorges and provide us with solid back-end play, but I don't see him as being a good fit for the D corps we have already. He's another lefty and another 3rd pairing defenceman.

He's another lefty and another 3rd pairing defenceman. I heard he's good on the PK. And there were better defensemen, but after looking at the Tuesday trades, at what price? I would have loved to get a big, physical righty, but not at the cost that most of those guys were going for. Honestly, even if he is a little more dependable than our call-ups, its not a bad trade to me. He gives us a little more dependability, and can match up to the bigger forwards of Pitt and Boston should we meet them in the playoffs, and he didn't come at that much of a cost. Besides, even if we decide it was a bad trade tomorrow, we can flip him for a 3rd rounder from Sather
BigTed3
Again, not saying the player is bad. I'm hoping that given a regular role, he can develop into something similar to what Josh Gorges is giving us now: a dependable stay-at-home defenceman. But in terms of a deadline deal, what you go out to get is a guy with playoff experience (of which he has none) and in our case, a right-handed shot (which he isn't). With Diaz out, we're down to one righty on D, and we've seen the damage caused by asking Emelin to play the right side. This traded, while not a bad hockey trade, doesn't address our actual needs. Given that he's a UFA at the end of the year, MB made the deal with this season in mind, and I'm hoping he knows something I don't because on paper, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Second, I understand that Drewiske can be an asset to the PK. But do we really see him taking a regular turn here? MT loves playing Emelin and Markov, and Gorges and Subban are our best duo. All 4 of those guys can play the PK already, as can Francis Bouillon and possibly Jarred Tinordi, if he had stayed here. While Drewiske can play the PK, he's not known to be an outstanding shot blocker like Gorges or a PK specialist like Hal Gill. He's a big guy who apparently doesn't use his size all that much, and again, on paper, I don't see how he's much of an upgrade over what we already have unless the coaching staff decides to use him in place of Markov, to rest the older guy. And I have a hard time believing that will happen. Like any other player, I'll give him a chance to perform on the ice, but I'm skeptical this move makes any kind of wave in our overall performance. BeanCountingHab
IMO he's just depth and a non-rookie placeholder in the hopes that Diaz gets back in some time during the playoffs. Hopefully he can be useful. Even if he ends up as nothing more than insurance, that's what the price we acquired him for reflects anyway. We may see him platoon with Kaberle depending on what team we're facing/what our team needs are during a game/series.
ramcharger440
lets have a look at him before we decide if this was good or bad. in todays hockey he was almost a freebie! and with our team and coaching staff he may surprise us.
