Enjoyed last time we meet up the the make -me-laughs ,5-2 victory in leaf land....3 stars in that game were Max.Pax ,D.D. and pricey Boy,...here's a link to the re-cap of that game...http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/recap.htm?id=2012020284

and on to tonight's battle...

GDT_zps2fe9aa5a.jpg

The lines at practice Friday in Toronto were: Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta; Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher; Galchenyuk-Eller-Ryder; Prust-Halpern-Moen; White-Dumont-Blunden.

The defence pairings were: Markov-Bouillon; Subban-Gorges; Beaulieu-Drewiske; Weber-Kaberle.

Last 10: Montreal 6-4-0; Toronto 6-1-3

Season series: This is the fourth of five meetings this season between the Original Six rivals and the first of back-to-back meetings on Hockey Night in Canada. Visiting teams are perfect so far -- the Toronto Maple Leafs won both games at Bell Centre, but the Montreal Canadiens won in their lone visit to Air Canada Centre.

Big story: This could potentially be a preview of a first-round series between the clubs, who haven't met in the playoffs since 1979. A Canadiens victory would all but assure them of the home-ice advantage in the first round.

Team Scope:

Canadiens: Montreal coach Michel Therrien has been asked for weeks to speculate on the likely event that his team would make the playoffs, but he refused to do until there was a little "x" next to the Canadiens in the standings.

But on the very first day Therrien had his little "x," he was asked to speculate on something else - the possibility of the Leafs and Canadiens meeting in the playoffs for the first time since 1979.

Remaining true to form, Therrien didn't bite.

"We're not going to spend the next few weeks speculating on who we might play in the playoffs," Therrien told the media, according to the Canadiens' website. "For sure there's a rivalry here that would be interesting for the two teams and the two cities and for the passionate fans on both sides, but honestly, I'm not about to start speculating; we have no idea who we're going to face in the first round.

Maple Leafs: The Maple Leafs may be facing the Canadiens without Mikhail Grabovski, who missed practice Friday while he underwent a test for a gastrointestinal problem that's been causing him to lose weight.

Coach Randy Carlyle said Grabovski had had the problem for quite some time.

"It's been a process that's probably gone on for more than two years with him," Carlyle told reporters. "So it's not something that just flared up."

Carlyle would not rule out Grabovski for Saturday's game, saying his status would depend on the diagnosis in New York. In his place, American Hockey League call-up Joe Colborne took his spot between Jay McClement and Leo Komarov at practice.

Who's hot: Montreal rookie Alex Galchenyuk has a five-game points streak, with three goals and three assists over that span to run his season total to 21 points. Michael Ryder, who will be playing opposite Galchenyuk on a line with Lars Eller, has three goals and three assists in his last four games… For the Maple Leafs, goaltender James Reimer has lost in regulation once in six games. Phil Kessel has four goals and two assists in his past three games and James van Riemsdyk has two goals and three assists during a four-game point streak.

Injury report: The Canadiens are missing defensemen Alexei Emelin (knee) and Raphael Diaz (concussion) and forward Colby Armstrong (knee)…The Maple Leafs are without forward Joffrey Lupul (concussion) and are likely to be without Grabovski as well.

What a difference a year makes.

After finishing in last place in the Eastern Conference last season with a 31-35-16 record, the Canadiens clinched a playoff spot with Thursday’s 5-1 win over the Sabres in Buffalo. The Canadiens (26-9-5) also moved into first place in the Northeast Division, one point ahead of the Boston Bruins (26-10-4) with eight games remaining in the regular season.

“We’re proud to make the playoffs,” coach Michel Therrien said after the game in Buffalo.

“It’s not easy to make the playoffs, there are good teams that don’t make the playoffs,” Therrien added. “It’s a good accomplishment, but it’s only the first step. We realize there’s a lot of hockey to be played and there are more steps coming.”

Great GDT FH10 but what is the fuss all about,we are only playing the Laffs,do not understand the fear of the Leafs, perhaps because I have only been watching hockey for 10 years. But I do not see what they can do that we can't do even better, perhaps some one could tell me,no don't bother it's very windy here today and I looked out of the window and I saw the answear it was blowing in the wind.

GO HABS GO :lol:

Personally I dont fear losing games to the Laffs but I do fear losing key players. They're vicious goons, more so than the booins imo

I want to see the DD line step up tonight, particularly Pacioretty. If they can generate at least one goal and spend most of their time in the OZone, I like our chances.

Pac is beyond due for a goal. His shooting percentage over the last handful of games is unsustainably low. I think he gets one tonight (knocks on wood).

He's been very swingy in his play recently. Will look dominant for a shift, then disinterested the next shift. I'd prefer him to work his way into the dirty areas more consistently, and make better use of his linemates.

I'm going to make a Facebook group dedicated to the removal of Chris Lee from the NHL...

Pretty sure that this already exists. The problem with Lee is that he has absolutely no knowledge of the NHL rulebook or how to apply it to play on the ice, which is really the number one criteria for being a referee. It's not that he's bad just for us, but his complete and utter lack of consistency is frustrating and confuses the players. In general, I find his style of refereeing tends to favor the rougher, dirtier teams like the Leafs, Bruins, and Flyers because he lets a lot of cheapshots go yet cracks down on borderline holds, hooks, or trips. So for the teams that already take a lot of cheapshot penalties, the fact that they don't get called and then the interference calls get made fairly evenly between the two squads means the differential swings in their favor. So with Lee reffing, advantage Leafs.

Big game tonight, chance to keep the series between the leafs and Habs close.

I'll never hear the end of it if the laffs win tonight.

I'm already hearing it from family, they think the leafs are better than the habs because they've made the playoffs. Was kind of enjoying the fact the leafs kept missing the playoffs. Habs will just have to sweep them if they meet up in the post season. That should shut up leaf fans for the summer.

Going to have to have a big effort tonight to beat these clowns. We always seem to play a shady game against them, and that can't continue. The boys have to show a killer instinct going into the playoffs and cant afford to be giving points away as the Ruins are right behind us. DD line has to step up in particular and mount a good offensive attack.
