Forever_Habs10
RUFF TO BE NAMED CANADA'S COACH FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Former Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff appears to have found his next coaching job. According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Ruff is expected to be named Team Canada's head coach for the upcoming World Hockey Championship. It will be Ruff's second time behind the bench for Canada at the tournament. In 2009 he lead Canada to the final, where they lost to Russia. Ruff, who was fired earlier this season, was the Sabres head coach for 16 years. He posted a 571-432-162 record behind the bench in Buffalo. Ruff's 571 wins with one team rank second in NHL history, trailing only Al Arbour, who had 740 wins with the New York Islanders. The world championship begins in Stockholm and Helsinki on May 3. He's one of the few NHLer's to play for the Swiss. And welcome to the forum Schnider! FirstStar
Ovie has joined the Russian team. No surprise there, whenever Russia needs him he's there. No Marky yet and with the season he's had, I'm not surprised.
powerplay2009
Surprised Peitrangelo didn't get invited by Stevie Y as well. He would be a lot more well known if he played in a bigger market. Been an interesting tournament so far from the few games I have watched. Should be a fun medal round, especially with all the Habs playing. Looking forward to it. I don't care about it like the WJCs and the Olympics, but it's still nice to see the NA teams do well.
ColRouleBleu
The quarterfinals are getting underway at the 2013 IIHF World Hockey Championships being held in Stockholm and Helsinki. Five members of the Canadiens are still involved in the competition, including Tomas Plekanec, Raphael Diaz, Alex Galchenyuk, Danny Kristo and P.K. Subban. Subban will join Team Canada ahead of their quarterfinal matchup against Sweden on Thursday. Switzerland has been the surprise of the tournament, finishing atop the standings with a perfect record of seven wins, including one in overtime. Diaz played one game for the Swiss during which he logged 14:43 of ice time and registered two shots on goal. The Czech Republic will go up against Switzerland in the quarterfinals, which will pit Diaz against Plekanec. The centerman has only played one game thus far for his home country, but made the most of his first outing. Plekanec registered three assists, and finished with a plus-2 differential and two shots on goal. Kristo, meanwhile, has recorded one goal and two assists in seven games played for the Americans. Galchenyuk has made one appearance for Team USA, logging 15:02 of ice time. Forward Tim Bozon’s tournament has come to a close for France. In five games, the Canadiens prospect registered one assist. He did not suit up for France’s final two games. The French finished the tournament with a record of 2-5-1. http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/blogpost.htm?id=17584
schnider
With luck, but we just won against Czechia in the Quarter Final 2 : 1. With Goals from Denis Hollenstein (Kloten Flyers) and Roman Josy (Nashville) for the Swiss Team and Kutlak for the Czech. Plekanec had a very good game, neverthess. But now I think there will be the End against the US-Team in the Semi-Final on Saturday.
