Forever_Habs10
NHL adds 5 outdoor games in 2014, including 1 in Vancouver: reports Heritage Classic to be played between Senators and Canucks The NHL has reportedly planned a pair of outdoor hockey games at Yankee Stadium in 2014. The NHL is going to add five more outdoor games to its 2014 schedule, according to multiple media reports on Tuesday. The Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings at Ann Arbour's Michigan Stadium had already been announced for Jan. 1 2014. TSN and ESPN are both reporting that five more outdoor games have been added to the 2013-14 season, with several other outlets confirming individual games. The additional five games include the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings playing at Dodger Stadium. Hockey will go up against football twice, as the New York Rangers will face both the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils at Yankee Stadium the same week as the Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLVIII is to be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Do you like the idea of more outdoor games? Is six games too much or just enough? Is six games too much or just enough? More money to prop up the Yotes? Cities love it,,,fans love it,,,,lots of NHL hype,,,,free publicity,,,,,,and the NHL wants to spread the word and get more people interested in hockey. Still would like to see Phoenix, Florida, Canes,,,,TB, Dallas, and SJ, on the list tho . Six games? I don't know,,,might lose it's lustre after next year, IMO. BTW,,,weren't the Habs and Oilers the first to have it outdoors?

I don't understand the game at dodgers stadium. They couldn't even keep the ice frozen in Pittsburgh. Betts has it all figured out -- free slushies for all the kids, swept up from game ice; and breathable mesh jerseys and pants to handle the heat. for the players. They'll grab those ice-air blowing machines from the NFL for the benches. Coaches? Required to wear Bermuda shorts for the game. Not a big fan of so many, kinda takes away the "specialness" of these games. Agreed. And NHL itself is proof of that. There used to be 6 teams. Back when the League was special. kinot-1
How many times is the NHL going to milk the sacred cow,,,before it dries up? Personally, I don't like Bettmans new NHL. It's all commercialism now, and the game has taken a back seat to the dollar. Sure, they can put 100,000 butts in the seats, but it is because of a new experience, but nothing else., sure, the NHL will make money from it, because that is all it cares about. I am not happy,,,,and I am sure that many of us older members/fans are not as well.

I understand the NHL nowadays is a business but something like the Winter Classic, I would like to see them focus more on the game side of hockey. I mean I like to think the Winter Classic started as kinda like a way to get back to the roots of hockey, and they should focus on that.
kinot-1
Has anyone noticed that there aren't any games between 2 Canadian teams? A U.S. team against a Canadian team, sure,,,but not 2 Canadian teams, because that doesn't bring in the big bucks for an American TV audience. The NHL has it all figured out what brings in the most revenue, and it sure isn't 2 Canadian teams battling it out on U.S. TV. That's why NBC rarely has a Canadian team vs a U.S. team on TV. Depending on how it works out,,,there will be more games in Minnisota,,Chicago,,Detroit,,,Buffalo,,,Ny,,,,,,Boston and all of the northern U.S. cities. Can you imagine if there was a game between T.O. and the Habs? It sure wouldn't get the same coverage.

WinnipegJet
I don't understand the game at dodgers stadium. They couldn't even keep the ice frozen in Pittsburgh. Probably some sort of artificial ice - I don't think it is ever cold enough to sustain ice anywhere in outdoor Los Angeles otherwise.

powerplay2009
Hawks and Pens to highlight a stadium series Just getting stupid now IMO. I could see more than 1 outdoor game a year, but more than 3 or 4 is a joke. Someone needs to teach the NHL the good old lesson of moderation. Its a genius idea the Brazil Bettmans So does this mean the leafs are gonna miss out on HBO 24/7 in favor of one of the American match ups? I know a lot of fans were pumped for that show Hawks and Pens to highlight a stadium series Just getting stupid now IMO. I could see more than 1 outdoor game a year, but more than 3 or 4 is a joke. Someone needs to teach the NHL the good old lesson of moderation. Id much rather see 2 games, as often as they can do an America VS USA matchup to get a home and away game for each team. IE play Chicago VS Vancouver with one game in Chicago and one in Vancouver. With some time in between obviously.

Honestly, even if they did a Heritage Classic home and home and then a Winter Classic home and home so both US and Canadian teams are in it, I could live with 4.
