ramcharger440
Ok so my main question is do we really need to win the cup this year to say we have had a good season, or can we be ok with all that has been acheived this year? last year we were bottom dwellers last year we missed the playoffs this year we brought in some rookies that performed this year we actually had a system now for sure we have had problems of late and we have areas that need some big upgrades but all in all i call that a good year. so if we go out in the first round is it a failure or just where we are really at as a team? and if we go some rounds are we that good or just lucky? Manatee-X
so if we go out in the first round is it a failure or just where we are really at as a team? and if we go some rounds are we that good or just lucky? Can it be both? A first round loss is probably about where this roster should theoretically be. With that said, theory goes out the window once they actually start playing and the team that came out for the first 40 games of the season was a playing like a very, very good hockey team. After seeing what they were capable of over that stretch I would consider a first round exit to be a failure.
ramcharger440
i hear ya, it has been an odd season though! we have not played the west at all and the condensed season may have helped us early on and now with some issues to deal with it seems to have hurt us i don't know it has been an odd but fun year to watch! hatethosebruins
I think this would be a GOOD year for us to do that. 2 of our guys on our defensive core are aging (Markie, Franky) and our offense has been pretty good. I think were at least one reliable top 4 d-man and a game changing winger away from cup competition. Cant help but wonder what the team would be like if we still had cammy and cole over bourque and ryder. I know Cole wasnt playing well and hasnt in dallas, but you still gotta wonder sometimes. THEBIGGESTHABSFAN123
I will be disappointed in a 1st round loss but the season would still be a success. Especially considering Playoffs Cammy.

With the way the Habs have been playing of late a first round ouster is exactly where this team is right now. However, if they can put a few good games together going into the playoffs they could do some damage. I'm an optimist when it comes to the Habs and I feel if they play the hockey we've seen them capable of and get a few lucky bounces along the way anything is possible. kinot-1
The way I see it, is if the Habs bring effort, energy, commitment, and a plan, then I won't be too unhappy if they got bounced in the 1st round. Many of us had the Habs out of the POs. at the begining of the season, so thie whole POs thingy, is something that's a bonus.

BigTed3
At the start of the season, I would have said the goal was to make the playoffs and that winning the Cup was out of the question. However, I think it's important to modify your goals depending on results, and there's no reason we should be content with having surpassed expectations from the summer. Outside of our recent slump, this team has shown it can compete with any team in the East, and there's no reason we can't get all the way to the finals. Boston has been slumping just as much as us, Pittsburgh's facing key injuries and has shaky goaltending, and most of the other teams are not overly experienced in the playoffs either. Do we need to win the Cup to call this season a success? No. At this point, I'll be disappointed in the result if we don't win at least one playoff round, but anything more than that is just rolling the dice on the chances we have. So long as we show up and compete, I'll accept where this team finishes. What I don't want to see (and what's more important in my eyes than where we finish) is our guys playing the way they have in the past week and go out without a fight. I don't fear losing in the first round, I fear losing in the same manner we've been losing recently.... It would be especially painful considering how well we played at the beginning of the season. It's true though that there are alot more positives to take away from this year, even if we do bow out early I'm excited about the guys we have ie: Eller, Chucky and Gallagher. Woodenhhead
It's a successful season already. Playoff-wise, I'll be disappointed if we don't make it to the conference finals. Regardless of that, we've basically over-achieved this season. It's a glimpse into our near future.
