I heard that this moring on my way into work. Good for Scott, he was a great locker room guy, the type of guy who will lighten the mood with a witty comment or well timed joke. You need these types of guys in the locker room, too bad his contributions were off the ice.

Former Calder winner (rookie of the year), he may be a good mentor for the young Huberdeau.

At least he doesn't have this huge contract to live up to and actually did well on the sharks 3rd line.

All the best to you Scott.

NHL.com. Florida is keeping its top draft pick, Aleksander Barkov, out of a prospect tournament this weekend despite the fact he has been cleared to play following shoulder surgery. General manager Dale Tallon said he didn't to risk another injury to Barkov after the team's injury problems last season.

I was surprised that Ilya Bryzgalov and Tim Thomas were offered a tryout with the Panthers. Both want a starting role. Unless, teams have injuries or goal tending problems during the season. I can't see this happening?

It's a little surprising that they've invited 2 FA tenders. i know Clemmesen is suppose to miss 3 weeks, but do they really need 2 vet tenders?

Unless they don't have faith in clemmensen.

i figure who ever shines will stay with the cats. Thomas did miss a complete season and isn't a spring chicken. That year off could've slowed him down some and Bryz, well, we all know how he did with Philly.

NHL.com has reported Thomas will be on the ice for a tryout with the Panthers according to general manager Dale Tallon. Thomas passed his physical today.

Florida and Tim Thomas have agreed on terms on a professional tryout contract.

This type of contract is limited to 25 games and a player can only be signed to a PTO twice per season. After the second time, the player is either signed to a Standard Player Contract, is a free agent, or if the player is signed to an ECHL team, he is then returned to that team

That being the case, if Thomas were to sign 2 PTO contracts, for 50 total games, then the Cats should be laughing, but it depends on how much Thomas wants.

Pierre LeBrun: For Dale Tallon, he's got a young goalie in Jakob Markstrom that struggled at times last season when given the No. 1 mantle. Dale Tallon wants Tim Thomas to come in and be a mentor for Jakob Markstrom just as he was for Tuukka Rask in Boston. Now, he's 39. He hasn't played in a year-and-a-half. All indications are that he's in pretty good shape and he's going to hit the ice for the first time on Tuesday, but it's a tryout. If this doesn't work out, there are no strings attached. In the end, this is about Markstrom so that he isn't overwhelmed at being No. 1.
Bob McKenzie: This is also about Tim Thomas knowing that there's an Olympics this year. People realize that this is a long shot and he hasn't played in over a year, but just for the record the Team USA had added him to their long list. That didn't just happen today in light of what happened with the Florida Panthers. It was actually done in the summer. David Poile and Team USA are not taking any chances. Tim Thomas is on the long list of players eligible to be named to Team USA.
