from La Presse:

he retired 78 traffic
It is not a coincidence that the bib 78 disappeared from circulation in the Cataractes. Neither camp last year, or at camp this year, proudly wore for four seasons by former captain Michaël Bournival number was not found in the hands of another player. The general manager Martin Mondou acknowledges that his organization has voluntarily left the traffic. To say that one day the Shawiniganais have his jersey hung in the heights of the arena alongside other immortals of the team, there is not a ... that Mondou was careful to cross! "All I can say is that this issue, and others, are treasured in the safe of the team," he mysteriously started.

I'm extremely happy to sya i was wrong about bournival. I got to see him play with LL when he was with the Montreal Rockets team (Verdun) and also caught quite a few Cataractes games.

he was the same player we've seen during the pre-season, but at the time, didn't see him having much of a chance at making the habs.

The kid certainly worked his butt off and has done great things during the pre-season. Granted it is pre-season and we've seen many kids burn it up during the pre-season, only to struggle once the season started-Remember patches' first stint with the habs?

Just about every line he's played on, he's been the best, hardest working player and i believe (at the very least), he deserves a shot for all his hard work.

Unfortunately we already have a plethora of small players and with Gio expected to be ready for the season opener, I don't see a place for bournival. Either way, when a kid shows this much heart and has points to back it up, you have to give him a chance. Or else it may send the wrong message to all the other youngins trying to crack a roster spot.

I don't think he'll spend the season here, still, I'm very impressed with what he's done up to now.

He really came out of nowhere, most were keeping eyes on Tinordi, Beaulieu, Thomas, McCarron, Colberg,etc... but it didn't take long before people started to notice speedy little bournival.

This is the kid we got from the Avs in the O'Byrne trade. I really didn't expect much from that trade, but several years later, here he is, leaving the coaching staff with a surprising, but no complaints dilemma.

Way to go kid, hard work seems to be paying off.

I would have him start the year in Hamilton without much pause. There will be plenty of opportunities for call-ups this season, I am sure. His development will be benefited from playing big minutes in the AHL.

As sad as it is to see some of these young guys go down, I wholeheartedly agree. The team roster is set right now & they (the youth) will get more quality time in Hamilton in the short term. With a number of veterans likely off the books within a year or 2, we will have plenty of room for the kids, and better still when they do move up guys like Galchenyuk, Eller, Gallagher, PK and Tinordi will be even more seasoned/better than they are now.

The future looks bright & Bournival imho has a really good shot at being part of that in the near future.

I guess we'll see what happens. IMO White isn't someone who should be guaranteed a spot and Bournival appears to be much better at playing hockey. Don't really disagree with you guys either though, a year in the top 6 in Hamilton would be good for his development as well, and there'll be injuries and chances for him to come up through the year.

Bournival has better hockey skills than white, he's faster, has nice hands (gave thomas a beautiful cross crease pas the other night), can shoot, set up, score and take FO's. The one place where white has the advantage is his physical game (no way can bournival match white), white also has more experience, which doesn't always show up in pre-season(often playing against other greenhorns), but it does in the reg season.

I think time on the 4th line would help bournival gain experience and develop his defensive game. But honestly, this guy isn't a 4th liner, not with his speed and skill. If i were MT and bringing this kid up, my objective would be to place him on our 3rd line in a scoring role. maybe give him some games on the 4th line for experience, but as aforementioned, my focus would be to place him in a scoring role eventually.

That being the case, I'd rather have him in a top6 role in hamilton, then a 4th line role with the habs. As it stand right now, we have no room anywhere else, no way he's knocking any of our top9 players out of their roles, so he'd obviously play on the 4th line.

it would be awesome if Michael could perform the say way Gallagher did, and if the aftermentioned Gallagher could improve on last season along with Chucky we should be easily able to crack top 5 in our Conference.. btw i've seen alot of Red Wings fans thinking they're going to roll through the east.. boy are they in for a surprise :P

Welcome to the regular season.

Score a goal on the Laffs, it's fun.

Not sure he'll play against the Laffs though, well not the opener anyway. Prust will be back in the lineup and so will Parros. So 2 guys from last night's lineup have to sit that one out. Gallagher didn't play on opening night last year either.

NOTE: Nathan Beaulieu and Gabriel Dumont were released from training camp immediately after the game against the Senators. Both will join the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. Left winger Michael Bournival and defenseman Jarred Tinordi, meanwhile, remain with the squad, and will start the season with Montreal.

He could very easily be the reason Gionta is traded.. I really hope gionta isn't resigned.. IMO he's a liability why because he's the second smallest player in the league who's getting up there in age and may not return to the form he had before.. as for this "shutdown line" of Pleks RB and Gio i find that laughable, I don't care how good Gio is with his defence, there's no way it's a shutdown line with a 5'7 165 pounder on it.. I think it's Pleky fooling all of you into thinking Gio is a solid defender.. he's geting hurt from defending most likely anyways!! With Michael there's a huge age difference and Michael at his point would likely have the speed advantage he's bigger and grittier.. I know he plays c//w but i'm sure he wouldnt be turning down any RW positions at the nhl. Also i'm not a Gio hater but ever snce he was named the captain i've been waiting for hes departure... Gorges imo deserved the "C" then Pleky.. in fact the second year guy(hadn't played that second season yet nor a full season as a hab) would of been low on the totem poll, I know the C was offered to Markov.. thank god he declined. Anyways the point of this conversation is to prove there is WAY he could knock out one of our top nine players.. :P and i dislike gio as the captain of this team lol

I don't understand the issue you have with Gio's defensive game. You don't need to be 6'0 to be effective defensively, pleks has proven that, so has Marty St Louis. Gio was moulded in the Devils system under Robinson and lemaire, during the height of their trap years. It helps, but it's not a guarantee that size equals a solid defensive game. You said it yourself in your statement, you don't care how good his defensive game is, it wouldn't be a good shut down line. That's a big of a confusing statement for me, if the guy is good defenively, how is size going to affect his performance?

If he's good defensively, he's good defensively regardless of size, point final. It seems like you're focused more on his size than his actual skill.

Also, when he tore his bicceps it wasn't playing a defensive role, it was an offensive role.

That being said, i don't see him coming back after his present contract ends. We have enough players in the system who can do what he does (given his age and the fact he's obviously slowing with age) and a fraction of the price.

I've been very impressed with bournival, especially after seeing him several years ago in verdun and with the Cataractes. But to say a kid who's projected to be an offensive player, with absolutely no NHL experience is better than an experienced Gionta (who has been able not only to survive in this league but thrive), is a tad shocking to me.

Bournival was brought to the Canadiens organization in November of 2010, in a trade that sent Ryan O’Byrne the other way. Since then, O’Byrne has headed overseas to find a place to play, while Bournival won a Memorial Cup, and earned a roster spot in the NHL at the age of 21.

Not only did Bournival outplay others such as Dumont and Michael Blunden for the final roster spot, as a player not subject to waivers, Canadiens brass are so confident in Bournival, they are willing to lose the others for nothing via the waiver wire to keep Michael around.

The Canadiens just rolled the dice on Bournival, it is now time for him to prove in the regular season that he was worth the gamble.

Bournival staying up with the Habs, means he's been given licence to steal a roster spot from someone. If he can put up 35-45 points this season, that'd be ideal. Desharnais could be the odd man out based on production. Bournival will most likely centre the 4th line between Moen and Prust.

There will be lots of competition for time on the fourth line, with Brandon Prust being the only member who has no real threat of being a scratch on any given night. Newcomer George Parros will be used on nights when his skills as an enforcer will be called for, meaning one of Travis Moen and Ryan White will have to sit out those games. Those two will also have to hold off rookie Michael Bournival, who was the revelation of training camp and used his NHL-level speed and a motor that doesn't stop to create turnovers and scoring chances.

If Whitey continues to show a willingness to engage tougher opponents, it will be Moen sitting, not White.

I don't know that Bournival will play C on that 4th line either? Or is Prust the C we figure?
