• He posted a 16-1-0 record in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs before backstopping Halifax to its first Memorial Cup. Fucale tied for the tournament lead with a .902 save percentage in four games (3-1-0) and was named to the tournament All-Star team.

He also was chosen as Halifax’s co-MVP (with top prospect Nathan MacKinnon).

• Fucale recorded four wins, including a shutout in the championship game, to lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He also played alongside Halifax teammate Jonathan Drouin (No. 3-ranked North American skater) at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, competing in all of Team Quebec’s games.

I found this piece on him:

"What is so impressive about Zach Fucale is his work ethic and also his mental coolness. During his time in the juniors he's known to be a workhorse and to work as hard as possible all the time. When he does give up a bad goal he doesn't let it get to him and he gets back into the game straight away. While lots of young, and older, goaltenders might be downhearted by a slipup or a mistake Fucale does just get back into the game. It might be something that I might be overemphasising but it shows a mature mental attitude which is promising in a young prospect.

When it comes to his size Zach Fucale is slightly smaller than the average goaltending prospect at 6"1 176lbs and will probably need to bulk up to reach his potential at the NHL level.

He is a classic butterfly style goaltender who is very athletic. He is one of those goaltenders that does a lot without actually doing a lot. The maximum amount of save percentage at the very least amount of movement. Its an excellent skill and he has been compared to Carey Price, whether that is a good or bad thing is up to each individual."

Just a piece I found:

"Fucale had a phenomenal 2012-13 season which saw him post a 45-5-2 regular season record before losing just once in the QMJHL playoffs and backstopping the Halifax Mooseheads to the 2013 Memorial Cup.

He will return to junior for the upcoming season and is a top candidate to lead Canada in goal at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships. "

Bold is mine.

I look forward to seeing him and Hudon at the WJC.

never a bad idea to have a plan "B" when talking about tenders. For all we know, Carey could turn into Potvin (who had so much promise in TO, Burns loved and compared him to Roy).

That's one place the habs were often strong, drafting and developing tenders. Ever since we drafted Price, we haven't drafted a promising tender until 2013.

Be quite a few years before Fucale can even think of joining the habs, but by then we should know if carey is still our #1 or if we want to pass on the duties to a young Fucale.

Canadiens have decided to bring only five goaltenders to camp, and the only netminder advancing from the rookie camp is Zachary Fucale, who was selected in the second round (36th overall) in June. Fucale will eventually be returned to the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, but not before he is given a chance to play against grown-ups.

That's gonna be a great experience for him to learn from the pros :)

Can we say steal of the draft? I know it's too early,,, but I can daydream.

kid has promise, can't believe I heard callers on TSN690 suggesting we dump price and start the season with Fucale.

Not very many young tenders can pull a Tom Barrasso... Went from high school hockey right into the NHL (Sabres).

How quickly could he make the NHL?

i don't see him going from jr right into the NHL.

All depends how he stacks up once he joins the dogs. And his development could be sped up if Price continues to struggle.

I'm not expecting to see him for at least a few years. Hope to see him playing at the WJC.

Sub .900 SV% after 15 games. If he truly is an elite goalie prospect it would be nice to see him stop a higher % of the pucks he faces. I understand how wonky stats can be from different junior leagues so I'm not writing him off by any means, it would just be nice to see him throw up some better numbers at some point.
