2013-2014 Negative Thread

Tough to beat a team that's allowed to ice 6 skaters + a goalie at times without a penalty. I'm still pissed...

Math skills are obviously not a requirement to be an NHL ref.

Blowing a 3 goal lead and near collapse in 2nd & early 3rd periods ! It was almost like the guys packed up and went home after the 1st period!

Can't hang Carey Price out to dry every game. The man can only stand on his head for a limited number of times.

I hate riding our luck this early in the season, and then running out of it when it matters most in the playoffs  !

I disagree. That would mean that Green was the best defender few years ago. At the moment 3 of our top7 scorers are defenders. I would rather have a dependable scoring machine on offense. It also increases the price PK will be asking for if he is not just our best defender but also our best scorer.

Well I think PK's the best defensemen in the league. Him scoring helps us, if he's gonna get paid more so be it. Pay him what he deserves. He led us in PPG pace last year so it's not that much of a surprise he's leading us now IMO. It also helps prove the haters wrong and help him win another Norris.

We have a defensemen who is one of the best(the best IMO) at his position. I think that's great.

You can't really compare Green a couple years ago to PK now. Green didn't even lead his team in points-just defensemen, and he didn't play nearly the defensive role that PK does now. The point I think TBHF is trying to make is that PK leading the team in points is just showing that he is the best defenseman in the league right now, not that leading the team (or all defenseman in the league) in points makes you the best defenseman in the league.

Also remember that our top producing forward is hurt. Our offensive production is largely done by committee for forwards, but with the exception of the powerplay, our offensive production for defensemen largely falls on one guy, who is more than capable of bearing that load. And it shows because he is our leading point producer.

When you get down to it, our best player is a defenseman. He puts up a lot of points and is good in his own end. The situation is similar to the Bruins of the 70s, IMO. I'm not saying Subban is as good as Orr, because that would be ridiculous, but, with all respect to Phil Esposito, Cheevers, and Co, the best player on the Bruins was Bobby Orr, and it wasn't even close. And when he was healthy it showed in his numbers.

Similarly, our best player is PK Subban, and it's not even close. And when he's healthy, it shows in his numbers. So yeah, it will cost more money. But it will be worth every penny, so MB might as well just open his wallet and pay up. I would.

Thank You. I couldn't really explain myself but that is what I was trying to say.

about last nights game:

Habs suck in the second period this season – outscored 9-6 and out shot in seven of nine games.
Even in their best games this season, the wins in Vancouver and Winnipeg, the Canadiens have taken their foot off the gas pedal after 20 minutes.
Once again, Francis Bouillon had to play unreasonable minutes: 16:48. Hamrlik used to play upwards of 26 minutes when Markov was out, but the Bull is not a Hammer. Bouillon ended the night as the only Canadien at minus-2. last night.
My favourite player Alex Galchenyuk was on the ice for the Ladislav Smid and Jeff Petry goals that got Edmonton back into the game. He had some sweet moves in the offensive zone, but the kid gets lost from time to time in his own end. Blame it on his youth. Galchenyuk will get better.
We now have lost consecutive games this season. I got this out of my system, but I still don’t feel any better.

Larry Robinson: ‘You question where our game is going sometimes’

One of hockey’s most recognizable and respected figures has weighed in on the state of the game, amid a rash of controversial hits and injuries to begin the 2013-14 regular season.

Recently, San Jose Sharks associate coach Larry Robinson spoke candidly about what he believes to be a “lack of respect” at the NHL level today.
His comments are similar to ones made by Sharks veteran defenseman Dan Boyle, who earlier this month had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after getting hit from behind by St. Louis Blues forward Maxim Lapierre.
Of course, there have been other incidents since then. Boston Bruins forward Loui Eriksson has been diagnosed with a concussion after he took a hit to the head (it was also late) from Buffalo Sabres’ forward John Scott earlier this week.
“I wouldn’t be in it as long as I have if I didn’t enjoy the game and that’s the part I like the most,” Robinson told the San Jose Mercury News.
“If there was anything that would turn me away from the game it’s the way it’s being played and how the league is being handled now.”
“How many concussions have we had in the last two, three or four few weeks, the lack of respect the players are having for each other.
“You question where our game is going sometimes.”
