Stanley Cup Odds for Habs "Les Glorieux"

The Montreal Canadiens surged in 2013 after a disastrous run in 2011-12.
They won the Northeast Division and finished the regular season
as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Canadiens lacked size and strength, and those factors
took their toll as the season progressed.
Goalie Carey Price struggled in the season's final weeks.
If the Canadiens are going to make a run at the Stanley Cup,
Price must be consistently excellent this season. (no problem)
Stanley Cup odds: 12-1
The EGG guns are hot for the Habs to start the NHL season.
They are creating space for each other.
Gallagher and Galchenyuk are each coming off impressive
rookie seasons and have picked a good time to get hot.
Lars Eller has 5 points in two games. “I got off on the right foot (this season).
The whole line has been playing great,” said Eller,
who prefers the moniker “kid” line to “EGG” line as they’re sometimes called.
Of course, it’s too early to call Lars Eller the Danish Jean Béliveau. Eller
put on a Gros Billesque display of strength down the middle in
the Canadiens’ 4-1 win.

The Canadiens skated in Brossard on Monday morning ahead of their afternoon departure
on a road trip to Western Canada.
The Habs open their trip with a game in Calgary Oct 9
before traveling to Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
Max Pacioretty took part in practice alongside his teammates,
but sported a blue “no contact” jersey.
Head coach Michel Therrien confirmed that he will accompany
the team on the road trip, and will be re-evaluated at practice on Tuesday.

Therrien also confirmed that Peter Budaj will make his first start of the season at some point during the road trip

To Play the Games is Good, To Win is Better, But to Love the Game is Best of All

Montreal is 61-40-15 (59.1 winning percentage.) over Calgary.

have met twice in the playoffs, and both were in the Stanley Cup Finals.

In Calgary’s season opener on Thursday against the Washington Capitals,
the Flames let a 4-1 second period lead melt into a 5-4 shootout loss.
In Sunday’s home opener, the team let a 3-1 third period edge evaporate
as the team eventually lost 5-4 in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks.

The Montreal Canadiens ability to captivate us shouldn't come as a surprise.
After all, how many "legendary" franchises have as many championships?
Here are the Canadiens - les Glorieux - on the road
in one of the most recognizable uniforms in all of pro sports;
the franchise that provides most of the texture
for the history of not just the NHL but the game of hockey itself.

That Calgary line-up looks rough - this is definitely a game that we should win. Having said that, with the results of those last two games in the back of their minds you know they're going to come out hard. I know that it's always a key to get off to a hot start, but I think it will be particularly important tomorrow: make them doubt themselves instead of giving them hope.

Great start to the GDT, habby4ever. Excellent write-up.

Dave Stubbs wrote an article about Habs' lack of success in Western Canada over recent years (LINK), most specifically: no wins in the Saddledome since early 2002.

I suggest putting an end to that little streak tomorrow night.

- Max Pacioretty was on the ice with his teammates on Tuesday afternoon, taking reps on his regular spot alongside David Desharnais and Daniel Briere.

- Captain Brian Gionta did not make the trip with the team for family reasons and will join his teammates in Calgary on Tuesday night ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Flames.

- Rene Bourque will suit up for his 500th career NHL game against his former team on Wednesday night at the Saddledone.

Patches to play Wed. :)

From the Montreal Gazette:

"CALGARY — Max Pacioretty looked excellent in white Tuesday, even with his jersey illegally tucked in the back, roaring around Scotiabank Saddledome ice like a beast freshly uncaged in a practice sweater that indicated he was no longer hands-off.So expect Pacioretty back in the Canadiens lineup Wednesday when the Habs take on the Flames to begin their four-game western swing."

Defenceman Nathan Beaulieu was called up to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, the team announced on Twitter.

Beaulieu was drafted 17th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He played six games for Montreal last season, with two assists and a plus-5 rating.

He had been assigned to the Canadiens’ minor-league team in Hamilton, but the Bulldogs have yet to play a game this season.

Keys to Victory:

1) Pressure the Goalie: When news broke that veteran goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff was retiring with one year remaining on his contract, the Flames were left without an obvious replacement. An open audition has been issued and thus far Joey MacDonald holds the edge over Karri Ramo. With 12 regulation goals allowed in three games, the Flames goaltending could be better. So it will be in the Habs best interest to take advantage of Calgary’s growing pains in net with an early goal or two.

2) Take Advantage of Inexperience: After trading long-standing captain Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh last year, the Calgary Flames officially entered a rebuilding phase. With injuries to veterans Cammalleri and Stajan, the club is getting an even closer look at some of its youth. Apart from former Red Wing Jiri Hudler, newly-appointed captain Mark Giordano, and veterans Lee Stempniak and Curtis Glencross, the Flames lineup is comprised primarily of fresh faces. For Montreal to be successful, they will have to leverage their experience to control the game and apply wave after wave of their transition game that has the potential to feast on the young Flames’ mistakes.

3) But Don’t Underestimate: Sure, the Flames are young and boast a relatively untested lineup. But they’re still finding ways to score and pick up points early in the season. Calgary’s goals against problem aside, they've managed to score as many as they've allowed. One bright spot for the Flames has been 18-year-old Sean Monahan, the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The rookie has two goals and an assist thus far, but his -3 rating suggests his defensive game has room to improve. If the Habs don’t respect their opponent, they risk falling to a group of guys playing to prove they deserve their post in the NHL.

I'll probably miss the whole game. I have a rehearsal for a new band today, and the first gig is tomorrow.

So here are my keys to victory:

1. Make sure a dancing banana is posted after every Habs goal.

2. No non-dancing pineapples allowed.

3. Everyone here learn how to heal as fast as Pacioretty, especially the plants.

4. Keep the puck out of our net, and put it in theirs. Repeat.

That about covers it.....hope it's an enjoyable game!

Nice job Habby, great GDT. Let's hope it brings us luck tonight!

A few things that may work to our advantage tonight, no kipper in goal for the flames and no Iggy either.

Game 3, it's about time we play our 3rd game, some teams are almost at 5 games played.

Habs always seem to start the season slow, I guess it's good for the players, start slow and slowly build up to that condenced schedule.

Leafs finally lost, but they always get off to hot starts and fizzle out as the season wears on. Didn't have that luxury last season with only a 48 game schedule. Even at that, they started to slide in the final month, but so did our habs.

i don't know what to expect from tonights game, been so long since we faced them.

I honestly expect a win. I cannot see Therrien and the habs, underestimating the Flames. Both teams will come out hard, especially a Hartley team. I believe the habs will pressure the goalie, and take advantage of the inexperience of a new team building. When you look at the habs, since Bergevin took over, you see a team, slowing plodding forward, improving every day. I think Habs depth will win out in Calgary.
