We need 98 points to clinch at present. If you look down the standings, where it says "in" means we would clinch in that scenario. The lowest point total at which all possible scenarios for point accumulation leave us "in" is 98. I see what you're saying about 99.8% being improved by +0.2% but even where it says "100%" isn't really a clinch. That just means that in 100% of simulations for the rest of the season, we come out making the playoffs. However, that isn't a scientific guarantee. It's a little bit confusing how they denote that, but the %'s are really just a most likely scenario type of thing and "in" is what you really need to be looking at as a statistical assurance.

I think the main issue is that they're not showing past a single decimal place (because there's not much practical reason for them to do so). As long as we're over 99.95% in they're just going to represent it as 100%. Similarly there are some possibilities marked with a 0% that are actually probably something like 0.04%.

Focusing on Detroit, a win in regulation tonight gives us an 11-point lead over them and leaves them with just 9 games to play. It would give us 11 over Toronto and leave them with 8 to play... Toronto would also lose any hope of winning the tie-breaker against us. Those would be extremely difficult holes for either team to climb out of to pass us in the standings and would almost assure we end up in the Atlantic division 2-3 game.

I guess we'll have to keep an eye out for that Nyquist kid. He's the hot Wing to worry about.

And isn't Alfie a Hab killer? And I heard that Tatar guy is pretty good too.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk are both out though. At least on paper, there is no reason we shouldn't win.

Seems like the Wings have re-loaded the next generation of Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Holmstrom with Nyquist/Tatar/Jurco/etc... no big name stars, but those kids look like they're going to be decent players.

Alfie has killed us in the past, but i don't fear him as much in his old age.
