  • 2 weeks later...

My second favorite team and a cool underdog team playing against the 2 teams I hate the most so it's a nobrainer for me. Go Detroit!!!! and Go Columbus!!!!

Flyers/Rangers, I dont care who wins that one but it should be interesting to watch.

I'm rather indifferent to who makes it or not in the West , all good teams with none that I particularly hate.

I just don't want LA to win anything in the West. Bruins West, is what they are.

I'd have to agree. Dustin Brown has one too many cup rings as it is.

During the highlights package for Hertl's first game back, someone on the NHL Network here in the States said (I'm paraphrasing slightly) "Hertl makes his return after injuring himself in December".

Dustin Brown is every bit the dirty, irritating, and overrated player (and leader, possibly. If I had to speculate, I would say that LA is really Kopitar's locker room) that Lucic and Chara are.

My least favorite teams left in the playoffs, in order:

1. Boston

2. Philly

3. LA (aka Philadelphia West)

The 3 teams I'll be pulling for, in order...

1. Mtl

2. Ana (Koivu for a Cup would be great)

3. Chi (they play hockey the right way)

What I'd predict will happen in the 1st round:

Bos over Det in 6

Mtl over TB in 6

Pit over Clb in 6

NYR over Phi in 7

Col over Min in 7

Chi over Stl in 5

Ana over Dal in 5

SJ over LA in 7

Boston vs. Detroit: Detroit slips Nicklas Lidstrom on their IR list and uses the Jedi Mind Trick to make everyone forget he retired. The Bruins insist they're underdogs "overcoming the adversity" of having to play the first round of the playoffs. NBC commissions a made-for-TV movie, "The Bruin Way", in which Brad Marchand runs into a burning orphanage and rescues a dozen children, who cling for life to his nose. Absolutely no one in North America gets tired of hearing about how the Bruins have such "character", and it's certainly not perceived as a cheap, cynical, forced storyline. Nope. BOS in 5.

Tampa vs. Montreal: Before Game 1, both of Tampa's goalies injure themselves and they sign Marc Denis to an emergency tryout contract. The forum nearly bursts into flames in pure joy. Right as the warmups start, Ben Bishop is lowered from the rafters of their arena. Tampa scores on their first shot and Twitter's database doubles in size because of the phrase "Should've kept Halak". After the ensuing faceoff, the fourth line gets hemmed in its own zone, Carey clears the puck, and ties the game. Michel Therrien uses his timeout. Haven't I tried to reverse jinx this enough? :P Maybe not. TBL in 4.

Pittsburgh vs. Columbus: Jay & Dan fully integrate "Sergei Bobrovsky, #1 cop in town" into the American psyche. Nathan Horton pours water on the ice again, but I find it less repulsive for some mysterious reason. Fleury has his best playoff performance in half a decade. His sparkling .899 SV% / 4.55 GAA electrifies the city of Pittsburgh, and Pierre McGuire starts wondering aloud if the NHL will just give him the Conn Smythe now. Mark Letestu wins it for Columbus in 2OT of Game 7. Why not? Flags are lowered to half staff at the NHL offices the next day. CBJ in 7.

New York vs. Philadelphia: Ryan McDonagh? I don't know any Ryan McDonagh. Never heard that name in my life. NYR in 5.

Colorado vs. Minnesota: The Wild look pretty bad, but win anyway. Colorado regresses all at once. On the brink of elimination, an Avalanche assistant coach notices a trend in Minnesota's defensive coverage and offers a suggestion to Patrick Roy. Patrick unfortunately doesn't hear this advice, however, due to his Stanley Cup rings plugging his ears. MIN in 6.

Chicago vs. St. Louis: Man will walk on Mars before St. Louis sees the third round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs again. Why is St. Louis hockey cursed? Is it to make up for the Cardinals? Is it because of Ken Hitchcock? Did they build their arena(s) on ancient Indian burial grounds? Chicago wins every game 1-0 while being outshot 3-to-1, purely to make fun of us. CHI in 5.

Anaheim vs. Dallas: A Bruce Boudreau coached division-winning offensive juggernaut fails to reach the second round again, and people are still surprised. This is getting kind of Groundhog Day-ish. Tyler Seguin singlehandedly wins this series. But he enjoys being young and rich too much, so Boston totally won that trade. DAL in 6.

San Jose vs. Los Angeles: The most brutal, intense rivalry in the NHL: The Battle of California! Generations of fans have been glued to their seats for tens of seconds watching the highlights of these games, and this series will be no exception. Dustin Brown only injures five Sharks, and the NHL orders a Lady Byng re-vote. A local LA TV station is guilty of looking ahead, and does a story previewing the upcoming matchup between the Oregon Ducks and the Sacramento Kings. SJS in 7.

After the two games earlier this evening, this Anaheim-Dallas game is huge letdown.

No kidding. Anaheim is just solidly playing well, sleepwalking through its first round matchup like it probably should. Weeeeeak.

Eastern Conference > Western Conference
