SCOOP OR SCOPE

Bell Centre Woes

Montreal is a beautiful city to visit, perhaps the top destination among the 30 in the NHL; but it has not been very kind at all to the New York Rangers in recent years. Since February of 2008 the Rangers have won just twice in their last 12 visits to the Bell Centre, shut out in six of those defeats. In fact out of their last six losses in Montreal dating to February 5, 2011, the Rangers have been blanked five times.

Henrik Lundqvist vs. Carey Price
Two of the top goaltenders in the league go head-to-head here in the Eastern Conference Final, and it will be a rematch of the two goalies from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi where Price's Team Canada bested Lundqvist's Swedish squad, 3-0. Of course Lundqvist won Gold with Sweden in 2006, so both of these goalies have won championships--gold medals--on the international stage, and now each is trying to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in his career. For Lundqvist this is his second conference final, while Price has reached the third round for the first time in his NHL career. Both have been sterling so far this post-season with Lundqvist leading the league with a .931 save percentage and ranking second with a 1.99 goals against average, coming off a simply incredible Game Seven performance against the Penguins; while Price has won 8 of 11 starts, posting a .926 save percentage and 2.15 GAA. However history has favored Price over Lundqvist. Price is 8-5-1 all-time vs. New York with a 2.06 GAA, while Lundqvist is just 13-11-2 against Montreal with a 2.85 GAA and .897 career save percentage.
Original Six
Any time you get a pair of storied Original Six franchises to meet in the post-season it's special, especially when the meeting takes place in the Eastern Conference Final with a Stanley Cup Final berth on the line. The Rangers and Canadiens have met 14 times previously during the post-season with each team winning seven times. In the most recent playoff get together, the Rangers rallied from a 0-2 series deficit to oust the Canadiens in the opening round of the 1996 post-season. In 1979 these two teams met for the only time in the Stanley Cup Final, with Montreal winning in five games. This is the eighth time the Rangers and Canadiens have met in the playoff semifinals--and first since 1986--with Montreal having won five of the previous seven series to advanace to the Cup final.
It marks their 15th post-season meeting, with each team having won seven times. And it's the third playoff series between the two since the 1979 Stanley Cup final, won four games to one by Montreal.
True story
I was in the grocery store today and there was an older man in line ahead of me. He had a Habs cap on, and two of the clerks said that they liked his hat, as did I. I mentioned to him that the game was at 1 PM tomorrow, and he said that he hadn't watched any games yet, and he only bought the hat as a conversation piece. :o

high scoring affairs in the regular season...1-0, 1-0, 2-0, us winning two, one in overtime.

i doubt that's the scenario now but i'll take it if that's the case :D

rooting for the ducks btw. 2-0 vs 0-2 with the kings this season.

I thought the game was at 12:30. Has it been changed??

NHL.com says it's at 1, so I guess so.

Did anyone else hear about the Rangers asking for the time of the game to be changed? St. Louis' mother's funeral was supposed to be Saturday afternoon, so the Rangers asked to have the game bumped to the evening so that they could all go to the funeral. The NHL denied the request (not only is the NHL inconsistent, but apparently heartless), but ultimately the funeral was moved to Sunday I think.

Beauty start to Round 3, kinot! Great read.

I've a backshift tomorrow starting in the evening so I'm not complaining too much about the afternoon game, although it does cut into my nap time.

I'm sure I'll survive. :D
