BigTed3
I dislike the KIngs more than I dislike the Rangers, but more than anything, I'd be happy to see the KIngs sweep the Rangers in the finals, just to stick it to the NHL and make for a terribly non-competitive end to the Stanley Cup. THEBIGGESTHABSFAN123
Rangers best chance, quick closes the door. He is good, not as good as Carey, though. Olympics proved that. Not nearly as good, his .906 save percentage in the playoffs before this game speaks for itself. He has been great tonight though.

He's been stellar tonight, but a shaky playoff on this run. Not as solid as the kings first run (3 yrs ago), but when called upon, has closed the door. That's it kreider, take your lumps. habs_93
Kreider tried to take out another goalie. Disgusting player. During the intermission, NBC had a little "who needs to do more" feature with Keith Jones and Mike Milbury. Who did Keith Jones choose to feature? Chris Kreider! According to Keith Jones, Kreider was "tremendous" against us, because he "drove hard on Carey Price and took him out of the game", with a smirk on face about it. He then went on to lament that Kreider hasn't tried to run any more goalies, and to call him a "brave" player. Yeah, it's real "brave" to fall into an opposing goalie with your skates out. I suppose if you're Keith Jones, that actually might be something to look up to.

Pretty much south of the border, they glorify the chara hit on patches. Even though there was clear evidence it wasn't a clean hit gone wrong, but a deliberate attempt to seriously injure. North of the border, completely different take. Air Canada threatened to stop sponsoring the NHL and providing them with flights, few other companies joined in. Really not surprised they're glorifying Kreider and praising him. An NFL coach was fired and charged for encouraging (even paying) his players to take out opposing players. When you use the violence and not the skill to sell the game (south of the border), this is what you have to expect. Glorifying what should be dark spots on the sport. FirstStar
In a way it's better that the Habs we're eliminated in the last round and not the cup playoffs. I'm starting to think the b's series was harder on our boys than most of us realize. Even if we hadn't lost price or even made it with tokes, don't think we had enough left in the tank to beat the kings. Better to bow out a round earlier and really make sure you're in prime shape when your turn comes again.

It's been particularly bad this year. I've been watching the sports channels down here that don't usually cover hockey very much (ESPN, Fox Sports, etc) to see what their tone on the playoffs was. During the conference finals it was almost unanimous: "If the NHL was smart, it would make sure there's an LA-NY Stanley Cup final, because nobody in the US cares about Canadian teams". Before the LA-Chicago Game 7, I watched a half-hour ESPN panel show that devoted a whole 2 minutes to the playoffs (which is about three times what you could usually expect). They were talking about how either LA-NY or Chicago-NY would draw good TV audiences, it would be "good for the league", etc. One of the panelists said something to the effect of "Not so good for Canada", which was greeted with a round of laughter and "I think we're okay with it, though". Someone else mentioned Corey Crawford being from Chateauguay, which also got a round of snickering and "Where's that?" kind of stuff. This is the market the NHL actually cares about and wants. He use to be great, there was a time when it was basically impossible to score on him. He's definitely overrated, he isn't what he use to be. He's very night and day...at times he can look like the greatest goalie and other times he just looks good. He's certainly not a consistent goalie. For me the goalie that doesn't wow me at all is Crawford.

He can have nights like this and nights, like during the olympics and winter classic, where he's lit up for 5+ goals. He's very pompous, arrogant and pretentious. Wonder if his character is stopping him from being the leagues best. Perfect city for him, LAers are use to pompous arrogant celebrities. He has a really fluent movements, very athletic and flexible. His "wanna-be-gangsta" image doesn't allow him to put bad goals behind him. He gets angry and let's it eat away at him. Kolzig had the same issue until the caps goalie coach got him to work on his anger issues. Once he did he was able to move on after bad goals. Not sure quick is able (at this point in his career) to have a short memory and put it behind him. Roy and roenick were vocal during their careers. Roy let him inside his head and Jeremy lit Patrick up every chance he got. Had it not gotten personal, Roy wouldn't have had such an issue and I believe that's what quick does, takes it personally. Who play behind such good defensive systems and teams. Crawford has Keith and Seabrook, let's not forget their 2nd d pairing. Then you had lidstrom/kronwall in Detroit and the devils won several cups with a defensive trap system. When Roy played for our Habs, his talent stood out because on most nights, we were heavily outshot. Yet, we had a decent record and had 2 cups during the Roy era. With any other tender I don't see us winning in 86/93 or even making the cup finals in 89. Hats off to Marty for his records, but Roy will always be king to me, won cups with 2 different teams, Avs were a powerhouse (they really were), our Habs, not so much. I'm with you, FS. Brodeur is certainly one of the finest of all time, but the greatest goalie I ever saw play was Patrick Roy. When he got in the zone, forget about it. No one else—and no one since—has had that level of intensity. On an NHL/US note, the big American market "dream final"? Less than half the viewership of the NBA playoffs, only twice as many as a regular season baseball game. For all the talk about how "great it would be" for hockey and the NHL to have New York and Los Angeles in the cup final, it's pretty underwhelming. We have so many rivalries I suggested moving Toronto back into the west.

That's exactly why I said Crow doesn't wow me. People speak of how underrated he is and I just don't get it, especially considering the well structured team playing in front of him. The guy has it made, you'd expect his numbers to blow others out of the water for that reason. I've always said that he'd be nothing more than an average goalie if he played for a team like Montreal...average may even be generous. I agree completely with everything you said about Roy. Though Price will never be Roy, the fact that the guy can play on his head and win us games on his own is the only reason I truly believed we had a chance of making it all the way this year. Goalies like that are hard to come by and I was really hoping he would have made history this year. The guy deserves so much more respect around the league because when the Habs don't feel like playing, he carries the entire team on his back.
