Wow, I really really like this trade. I can't believe Colorado did this, they traded away a legit top 6 forward for Briere who makes the same money. Extra year on the Parenteau deal but he's a much better player.

I can't believe it, excellent trade. We got a top 6 winger for almost free here. Briere's still valuable but there's nowhere for him on the roster and 4M on the 4th line is too much. Turning dead cap space like that into a top 6 winger is huge.

He was a bit of a late bloomer as he is 31 years old and only has 4 full seasons under his belt. But of those 4 seasons, one was 20G and 53 points, one was 67 pts, and another was the lockout where he got 43 pts in 48GP. Not bad for Briere.

Briere also waived a NMC for this trade.

Hopefully he's not done. He's not exactly the top line RW we need.

FWIW, Parenteau will be having a conference call at 3 PM edt. It will be broadcast on TSN 690 at 6 PM.

Will miss Danny, but I too am all aboard on this deal. Looks like a good one. Haven't watched him play much but have heard good things.

I had him in my hockey pool :D

I don't know how I feel about this. He's not the top line guy we need even if he is an improvement over DB

Looks more like a 3rd line Gionta replacement at this point to me. We moved an excess center getting limited ice to plug that hole.

yeah but 4 million for that!? You might be right be have him for one more year and given that we have RB, Prust, Weise, Bourny, White, and Gally/Pleks/Eller/DD (any of those might end up centering the 3rd!) did we really need him? If he had one year left there would be nothing bad to say but the extra year doesn't sit right if it stops us from signing guys we really want.

We need a high end RW and now a top 4 D to replace Georges or we are just spinning our wheels

But we were paying Briere that much to play part time on the 3rd and 4th lines on the wing,, when in fact he's a center that we didn't have room for.

We took a spare part and used it to plug the hole that Gionta's leaving created (whom we were paying 5 mill).

So we went from two holes in our top 9 to just one. Great move. Also it never hurts to give Timmins fifth rounders. :D

I'm not sure we had a hole there though... Where is RB and Prust playing? Of course I prefer PA but we still have these players under contract, what are they doing?

Anyway, I don't hate the trade either, it is certainly good for us this year. But Colorado was basically thinking: we'll take the bigger problem this year but you can keep our problem next year!

Prust is a fourth liner and I am glad he won't have to play on the third line. Bourque would be a big downgrade on Gionta and I'm glad we don't have to put him there either. Parenteau is a legit top six guy.

Nice move dumping Briere but not thrilled at who the Habs got back in return

PAP was definitely overrated as a UFA two years ago. But he's a decent 2nd line RW, and he's an upgrade on Briere and on an aging Gionta if we consider the full two-year term. Good trade.
