roy_133
Most GMs work for American teams so even if it's close Price will lose out just as PK wasn't picked for the all-star game. I don't know if there's any reason to believe there's an anti Canadian team bias in awards voting. If anything there's an anti West coast bias just because of the time those games start here in the East but the GMs probably watch every team fairly equally. Anyway, basically all the awards are stat votes now. If Carey has the best stats, he'll likely win.

Manatee-X
yep best in the game right now They mentioned on TSN.ca that Price has allowed two goals or fewer in 14 of his last 15 appearances. And it's not like we've been particularly great at limiting shots during that time either. If that's not the model of consistency then I don't know what is. jennifer_rocket
Even with 30+ games to go, we can easily agree that Price is our MVP for the year.
Guest habs1952
What can you say about Carey Price? Dominant isn't strong enough of a word to describe his game these days. Forget about being up the creek without a paddle, we'd be up the creek without a canoe!

Noob616
It can't be understated how good he's been. And a year after posting a .927 and having an excellent playoffs! Right now the only guys I consider in the same ballpark are Lundqvist, and maybe Rinne. That's it. Dude's the real deal. He's perhaps the best goalie in the game, and a goalie that's consistently this good is incredibly rare. Considering age, contracts, and injury history I don't think there's another goalie in the league I'd take over Price at this point. The key word is consistently, it's not that rare that a goalie will post a .920+, but finding a goalie that can consistently do it and be significantly above average multiple times while playing 65+ games is like finding a magic unicorn. No other goalie is in all of those categories, only Carey BTW, Carey is now tied with Patrick Roy with 29 SO, 6th all-time in Habs history. jedimaas
Busy day or 2 for Carey in the news:- First star of the week - Carey Price - err - Molson Cup Winner for January - Martin Brodeur tells Elliotte Friedman that if he were building a franchise around any goaltender in the world right now, it would be Carey Price. - Dave Hodge (now one of several other media guys) says that CP would be his choice right now for not only the Vezina, but the Hart as well. Yup, Friedman said this a few weeks back to the panel. Kelly Hrudey (who is stil bitter about 1993 and therefore hates everything Montreal, totally irrationally - just what you want in an analyst ) said he felt Rinne was much better and doesnt have the benefit of Montreal's team in front of him. What?

What? Rinne is close, but his injury might hold him back as far as wins goes. Carey is only 2 back. Carey has played 2 more games than Rinne, but has made more saves. Carey has made 121 more saves than Rinne, so, IMO, Carey is playing behind a worse defensive team.

Hart would be tough, a lot of guys just refuse to vote for a goalie.
kinot-1
The way I see the Hart, is that (according to the criteria), is a "player judged most valuable to his team". To me, that means if you took that player off the team because of injuries for any length of time, the team would essentially drop in the standings. You "could" argue, that when Gretzky won all of those Harts, he was playing on teams that were scoring machines and the Oilers could have kept trucking along without him, that in my mind, doesn't make him the MVP.. That does not mean he is "most valuable to his team". Rinne had better stats a few weeks ago for sure but Carey has passed him by, right now Carey would probably have to be the Vezina favorite. Hart would be tough, a lot of guys just refuse to vote for a goalie. There's a case to be made with Tyler Seguin being on a mediocre team. Take him off the ice for any length of time, and the team "would" fall apart. IMO, same goes for Carey. We're 23rd in scoring in the league, so the team isn't winning with scoring, it's because we have (at present) the lowest GA..

We're 23rd in scoring in the league, so the team isn't winning with scoring, it's because we have (at present) the lowest GA.. The thing is, you cant judge NHL awards on the mandate of the criteria. The Norris usually goes to the highest scoring (not necessarily the best) dman. The Vezina usually goes to the goalies with the best GAA and SV - regardless of whether they really 'are' the best, or what the team / system ahead of them is like. The Selke usually goes to a very good defensive forward, who also scores a lot (usually not the absolute best defensive forward) The Hart is harder to identify because its not always the Art Ross winner (although it often is). More often than not its a guy who does (or would otherwise) win the ARoss, the MRichard, The Norris or the Vezina.

jedimaas
Now 1st in the league in SV% second in gaa (2.03 vs. rinne's 2.02) and 2nd in wins (29 - 1 behind Rinne whom he should pass very soon). I can remember some pretty amazing stretches of Goaltending watching the habs for the past few decades but honest right now, Price may well be the most consistent and consistently calm ive seen in a loooooooooong time. Its amazing to watch.
