#28 Nathan Beaulieu 2014-2015

He will be better than Allen in the long run.

Right now it's too early to call Allen a bust.

I wouldn't say that Allen is or will be a bust, mainly because expectations aren't really that high for him. There's a reason we got him for a guy playing in the AHL with a huge salary - Allen's a proven commodity, and that commodity is a lower-pairing D-man.

I could see arguments for playing him over Beaulieu if we were in need of steady leadership or whatever, but that's not where we're at right now (especially after Gonchar, who has surprised me and has fit in quite well so far). In fact I'd say that the position that we're in right now - first in the league and with lots of stable veterans in our defence corps - is the perfect time for Beaulieu to be playing and making his mistakes. It's not like we're in such a precarious spot that he's going to single-handedly cost us a playoff berth. I'd much rather him get his knocks now with relatively little on the line than having him come in during the playoffs as an injury fill-in.

Third in ice time on the back end tonight. A nice road trip to let him get some top time away from the Bell Centre. Nice to see him getting the opportunity to play. Makes you wonder how far behind in development Tinordi is. I am sure Mark will get there but his style of play may need more polishing. This is a good sign and when combined with the development of some of our other prospects this team looks in good shape for the future.

I can't say I noticed him much tonight. Which for a D-man is not necessarily a bad thing.

Looked very solid last night again.

One has to wonder if Emelin is on the way out with MT starting to favour 4 guys over him consistently. I wouldnt be surprised to see either Emelin or Gilbert moved before the season is over - which just means more confidence in Beaulieu ;)

Now, if Tinordi could come along we could maybe even look at trading Emelin away!

In an ideal world, based on their skill set, Tinordi is our number 2 dman (paired with Subban) and Bealieu is #3 paired with a big shut-down guy. In the short term though, i could see Bealieu skating his way onto the top pairing & having the 2 old russians bringing up pairing #2.

The problem is Emelin's NTC, which makes it harder to move him.

I would go so far as to say Beaulieu has been our 3rd best defenceman in the past month. He's played well before, but now he's doing it without having any kind of protected minutes. His emergence has helped to solidify our back end but it's actually also making our forwards look better too. Despite the mish-mash lines, the forwards are getting better break-out passes and chances from Beaulieu than they were from Allen, Weaver, or Emelin.

yep I would say he has arrived.

Definitely moving up the depth chart.

He's getting better/more confident every game.

Love his confidence. I think thats the boggest difference between this time up and the last few times he was recalled. He's got the confidence to make plays at the offensive blueline and carry the puck. Also, not only his confidence, but MT's confidence in him. He's looking great.

This. Im pretty sure he's played his last game in Hamilton. Hopefully it has a positive impact on Tinordi too as MT was obviously worried about playing 2 young guys at once but now I think he has confidence in Beau so hopefully we'll see both in the lineup soon.

Beaulieu has really impressed me. At the beginning of the year I wasn't sure he was ready for the NHL. Now he's playing like he's been in the NHL for several years already.

Over at HIO there's an article where when he was interviewed he said: “Before I was just playing to stick around and stay in the lineup,” he said. “Now I know my role on this team and I’m trying to play it. I’m a little more relaxed now.”

To me, this shows that it was more of MT's confidence (or a lack of) that was causing Bo to play a "nervous" style. I think that Bo would have probably been playing at this level from the beginning if MT had just shown some confidence in him. This is a clear indication that MT is less tolerable of mistakes made by rookies than vets.

I liked the fact that there was no jersey pulling,, or yapping,,,, just drop the gloves and go at it.

This. He said post game that "any guy" would have done the same, but I think there's only a handful who would have done that - prior to this incident anyway. I could see a lot of guys thinking "if Beau did that" Id better do the same.
