After leading the team to a division crown in his first year back, he took the squad to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2013-2014. With Gerard Gallant assuming the head coaching role with the Florida Panthers, Therrien will likely add another coach to his staff before the start of the season. jedimaas
interested to see who comes on board to replace gallant. Its basically impossible to know who is and isnt effective as an assistant coach (even someone who, for example is in charge of a failing PP may not be to blame as you never know how much input the head coach has) but i really get the sense that Gallant played the role of "Good Cop" in last year's coaching staff. The guy that the players would actually talk to and may have been a motivator when the players were visibly frustrated with Therrien at times. Its speculative of course, so who knows, but I do hope they replace him with someone equally "player friendly" but with some actual coaching credentials too. Guest
From HIO.... Former Canadiens defenceman Patrice Brisebois is leaving his job as the Habs’ player development coach. “It was Patrice’s decision to move on for family reasons,” said Donald Beauchamp, the team’s senior vice president, communications and community relations. The 43-year-old Brisebois, who has two young daughters, worked mainly with the Canadiens’ defence prospects, often travelling to work with them on site, such as in Hamilton where the team’s farm club is located. Brisebois, who played 16 seasons with the Habs, was hired for the job in June 2012, a month after Marc Bergevin took over as the Canadiens’ general manager. Former NHLer Martin Lapointe was hired at the same time and named director of player development

Well Brisebois's spot was kind of a made-up role under Bergevin... it's not an absolute necessity to fill that immediately. An assistant, we need quite desperately though, and I don't have much faith in the two guys left over right now.
Guest Regis2
Although I agree with you, you don't sound too thrilled with JJD and CJ ? Need to bring someone in who can relate to the players. Muller would have been a good choice . I don't even think CJ and JJD should have been there to start with but it is what it is

Good motivator only if he likes you. Putting players in a position they are not suited for wreaked havoc on several of our players last year & while this is conjecture on my part, it seemed like (from watching 24CH and media reports) Gallant was there to play good cop for the players who felt they were being used improperly. Time will tell & of course who we replace him with. Should be interesting.
ramcharger440
I think assistant coaches are the good cop on most teams. at least that is often what players say, the coach is the tough guy and the assistant plays the role of confidant and buddy. Regardless of whether the tactics made any sense, I really can't think of many instances where the guys weren't ready to compete for Therrien. I 100% agree with this - but - the problem is, I think we're 'stuck' with the system for the foreseable future so learning how to play best within it, may be our only hope

Habs_Hockey_Nutz
Hmmmm, run and gun? JK of course. Well with the changes in personnel it would likely be different I suppose. And perhaps more in a good way than bad (I hope). Puck possession would most likely be the prevailing wish of some of us here. Any time there is change it peaks the interest no doubt. The roster changes from last year have all been geared towards building a fast transition/puck possession team. I have to think that is what MB expects out of this group. hatethosebruins
As to if people weren't ready to compete under Therrien, I believe there was a stretch where the team lost faith. Culminating in that Capitals saturday night game where the team had a closed doors meeting following the game. However I am interested to see who the new assistant will be, haven't even heard the slightest bit of news about it.

kinot-1
Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, announced Wednesday the appointment of Dan Lacroix as assistant coach with the Club. Dan Lacroix entered his season as an Islanders assistant coach this year, joining Ted Nolan and Daniel Flynn from the Memorial Cup finalist Moncton Wildcats of QMJHL. A former seven-year NHL veteran left wing, Lacroix wrapped up his NHL career with the Islanders in 1999-2000 season. On August 5, 2009, Lacroix was named an assistant coach for the Hamilton Bulldogs for the upcoming 2009-2010 AHL season. When Guy Boucher was hired as coach of the Lightning, Lacroix followed Boucher to Tampa Bay. He appeared in a total of 188 NHL games for the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and the Islanders recording 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points and 379 penalty minutes. BigTed3
On paper, the addition of Lacroix seems like a decent move. We'll see how he pans out, but he's got experience and seems to be a respectable choice.
