Guest habs1952
Brutal night for hockey in Florida. Habs get whomped and the Panther's game has more players on the ice than people in the stands.

Not cold enough up here yet for the snowbirds and the dollar sucks right now. Could be a bad one in Florida this winter. Should i just archive this thread right now?? P100
Did anyone actually expect something different than this? They have not deserved to win one game yet this season and it was only a matter of time before they played against someone who would not let them back into the game in the third period. Lack of offense except how offensive the scorers are so far this season, save pleks, lack of defensive zone coverage and the keystone canadiens impersonation in the third period was laughable. Power less play so far and no improvement in sight yet. Someone needs to take the reigns and exhibit some control over this team....maybe time to actually name a captain to do that. Something needs to be done and soon. Gift wins will not keep falling in the coaches laps this season.

MergenTatara
Wow, what a thrashing! Granted, the boys were definitely tired after 3 road games in a row. Early days in the season yet. At least the team gets a taste of a beefed-up Tampa improved from last season. Hope MT and the coaching staff were taking notes of Tampa's playing style. If both teams make the playoffs, I'm absolute we'll face them in the first two rounds. Funny how we can never contain Steven Stamkos. We lack a deadly sniper of this type, a Crosby/Tavares/Ovechkin/Toews, someone able to convert at the slightest opportunity. Sadly, Pacioretty (or even dearest Pleky) is NOT of the same calibre. Yes, we have three lines capable of scoring but no standout individual game-changer. PP really sucks - I haven't checked the stats - is it the League's worst record yet? Whoever is in charge of coaching PP really needs to be replaced.

Semantics
This game can't be deleted from the standings, unfortunately, but I would recommend deleting all other historical references to it: all game tapes; Habs don't need to watch any PVR recordings (I did that in the third period) this game thread, even On to the Bruins! Welcome home Habbies!

zacattak
Does anyone know how plus/minus statistics are calculated?
Guest habs1952
Does anyone know how plus/minus statistics are calculated? When teams are at even strength a player on the ice at the time (not including goaltenders) gets a plus if his team scores a goal and he gets a minus if his team allows a goal. jedimaas
Does anyone know how plus/minus statistics are calculated? When teams are at even strength a player on the ice at the time (not including goaltenders) gets a plus if his team scores a goal and he gets a minus if his team allows a goal. In simplest terms yes. 5-on-5 thats exactly what happens. Team scores means +1 for everyone (not goalies) on the ice. Team scored on means -1. 4-on-4 (and overtime) is handled the same way 5-on-5 is. There are some exceptions; If you are on the powerplay you get no + if you score. Likewise, if you are on the penalty kill you get no minus - BUT, if you are on the powerplay and get scored on by the shorthanded, everyone on the powerplay gets a minus and everyone shorthanded gets a plus. And it is possible to get a plus with a man advantage: If a team pulls their goalie (thus giving 6 skaters) they would still get a plus if they score and a minus if the other team scores an empty netter. It is a flawed stat in many ways (it punishes good defensive players in bad defensive situations and/or playing with less skilled 2 way players. It seems to indicate more than it really does about an individual player. Marc Bergevin was a low plus or quite often minus player for a lot of his career (he played on some crummy teams mind you) but he had one season playing alongside Al MacInnis almost the whole season & put up a whopping +27 (his previous best was +7 and he was only a plus player 5 or 6 season in his entire nhl career). +/- is an interesting 'team stat' but imho it is very flawed as a player stat.
