habs_93
It wasn't even a judgement call. Price was in the crease. Abdelkader made contact. Incidental or not, the rule doesn't change in the crease. I think that was as black-and-white as an interference call as you'll get. Well, judgment call as in there's almost always consternation about goaltender interference/incidental contact calls/non-calls. Rarely is anyone—let alone everyone—happy about it. Semantics
Quincy sure did his darndest to trip Gally as Gally was trying to go around the net. I was really surprised at all the holding and interference the refs were letting go tonight. Bizarre, really. I thought I was watching a 70's Classic Game. Red Wings were taking full advantage, and Habs weren't. Patches finally had enough and went for his dive (beauty swan it was, good on him), and the refs had to call something (interference became 'tripping', due to Patches doing the 'Bobby Orr'). Turning point of the game ... Pacioretty should have been First Star. The game went to 4-on-4 and the Red Wings couldn't run their interference so well. Galchenyuk scores. I always felt the Habs were going to win it from there. This is starting to feel (a little) like the 1993 play-offs and those 10-for-10 overtimes. As soon as the Habs tie it up in the third this season, it seems like the tide has turned and the 2 points are coming. Therrien was some pleased afterwards. 4 days off boys. Nice!!! Weise -- good game. Welcome back.
FanFromAB
salvaged a point, anyway. More than we expected from the way this one went. not me, I thought Montreal was the better team, better team D, better and more scoring chances, move the puck better, better checking, forced Detroit to hack, trip, hold (not called) but still you could see the frustration building with Detroit, I called this one halfway through the third, said they'd win 2-1 and they did, would have liked not giving Detroit a point but Howard and the Zebras earned that point for Babcock's sorry bunch...they will sneak into the playoffs with 10-15 loser points for sure. FanFromAB
Carey Price giving DD all the love! He knows how hard he works. THIS! This team rallies around that little fella, he's got my vote for top line anchor and not because he scored this one but because he works 3 times harder than anyone on the ice, he wins a lot of his battles against guys 50% bigger, he's one of the most underrated players in the NHL by my count! Weise -- good game. Welcome back. Interesting take on it.....that may have been the exact point that the boys felt the momentum shift. And there's definitely something to compare that 1993 overtime streak with what's going on now, a streak made of come-from-behind wins in dramatic fashion. not me, I thought Montreal was the better team, better team D, better and more scoring chances, move the puck better, better checking, forced Detroit to hack, trip, hold (not called) but still you could see the frustration building with Detroit, I called this one halfway through the third, said they'd win 2-1 and they did, would have liked not giving Detroit a point but Howard and the Zebras earned that point for Babcock's sorry bunch...they will sneak into the playoffs with 10-15 loser points for sure. You know what.....ON FURTHER REVIEW (in other words, after watching the highlights a few more times) I would have to agree that the Habs had loads of good chances that seem more dangerous now than when I was watching the game live. And there's no question it was a good defensive effort topped with a great game by Carey Price. Gotta hand it to Detroit, they made it hard on the Habs by playing a near-perfect road game, but Montreal only got stronger when it mattered most. BigTed3
My take on the game: - Great showing from the D corps, top to bottom. I think all 6 guys were solid tonight. Tinordi really impressed me not only with his physicality but his discipline positionally, which is often times a point of criticism for young D men. - Desharnais was awful. Good on him for scoring the winning goal, I hope it gets him going because I'm well aware that we're stuck with him as our #1 center as long as Therrien is behind the bench, but he was awful. People may think I am a downer when it comes to DD, but the truth is that I like the guy, I like his story, and I wand him to succeed. What I don't care for is the fact he's constantly babied by the coach and given rewards he hasn't really earned. The truth is that if that was Eller who had played DD's regulation game tonight, he wouldn't have even set foot on the ice in OT to be able to score the winning goal. The DD line tonight didn't get a heavy O-zone start percentage and it didn't get oodles of PP time because Detroit wasn't penalized much. And we saw how badly they stunk without getting those odds tossed in their favor. In fact, Desharnais' line was the only one with a Corsi below 50%. Full credit to Davey for going to the net and potting home the winner, and as I said, hopefully that springboards his play over the next little stretch, but in my view, Eller should be given the chance to play between Pacioretty and Gallagher. - Galchenyuk was a beast tonight, yet again. Not only did he score, he also brought an element of scrapiness to his game and didn't back down from Kyle Quincey's dirty antics. In the end, he simply out-muscled Quincey to score that tying goal, showing he can score not just with finesse but from gritty work too. That's a great sign moving forward. - PA Parenteau looks like he's going to give Rene Bourque a run for his money in terms of most scoring chances missed this year...
