CANADIENS (24-11-2) at DEVILS (13-19-7)

TV: RDS, SNE, MSG+
Radio: TSN 690 CKGM, WFAN 660

Season series: The Montreal Canadiens won two of three games against the New Jersey Devils in 2013-14. New Jersey won the final and most recent meeting on Jan. 14, 2014, a 4-1 win. Devils forward Jaromir Jagr scored his 695th NHL goal, moving him past Mark Messier for seventh-most all-time.

Canadiens team scope: Carey Price will become the third goaltender in Montreal history to play in his 400th game as a Canadien on Friday, trailing Jacques Plante (556 games) and Patrick Roy (551). "It really goes by quickly," Price said. "I've had the privilege of playing on several very good hockey teams, and I've played with a lot of very good hockey players that have helped me throughout those 400 games." The Canadiens have won four straight games and seven of their past eight. Just one of those seven wins, a 2-1 shootout victory against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, has not come in regulation. Montreal remains two points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division, but has two games in hand.

Devils team scope: The Devils, a team desperate for some good news over the last few weeks, got some after their 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, as forward Steve Bernier, who lost feeling in his left leg after a hit during the game, is expected to be fine. "He's much, much better and it looks like he's ok," general manager Lou Lamoriello said Thursday. "He was here this morning and got treatment, but he's going to be fine." Bernier is unlikely to play against Montreal, but Lamoriello said he "wouldn't be surprised" if Bernier skated Friday. Patrik Elias and Michael Ryder also appear to be on the mend, as both skated Thursday after missing several games due to the mumps. New Jersey currently sits in second-to-last place in the Metropolitan Division, and has gone 2-6-3 in its past 11 games.

The Devils' roster is a who's who of players who were very good over the past 15 years but all of whom are on the downside of their careers: Jagr, Ryder, Gomez, Cammalleri, Elias, Clowe, Havlat, Ruutu, Zubrus, Tootoo, Zidlicky... looking at that roster, it's somewhat surprising that the GM who put that together didn't want to bring back Martin Brodeur.

Peppy says if these guys come out wearing polka dot uniforms they still shouldn't win and she's got honest eyes so like 3-1? 4-1? Start out 2015 right.

If the Habs don't win tonight against that lineup we have serious issues.
