2nd and a conditional 5th

Pleased with what we gave up. Good job from MB not having to give up a 1st, as we've been seeing in a lot of trade over payments so far.

Nice deal. Definitely didn't overpay, which was a huge concern for me. I'd say the deals are done for Montreal at this point.

May have opened up the door with Edmonton. We still have that 1st available, and a ton of A prospects for a possible Yakupov deal.

Would Yakupov even be of any immediate value to us? Yes, there's future value in a trade for Yakupov, but I don't really see him getting much ice time this season under Therrien (assuming a hypothetical trade).

If we didn't have to give up a core player then IMO the trade would have value. Yak has picked up his game considerably of late.

I'm not hopeful it happens though.

Nice trade. Especially when you consider that Coburn got Gudas, a 1st and a 3rd (!), and how much everyone seems to be overpaying this year.

I dont know much about Petry, but if he's a legitimate top 4 guy like I hear, then im more than happy.

I have no idea about the guy to be honest. -25 looks pretty ugly... But it's Edmonton, so...

I've seen him play quite a bit. He's a legitimate top 4 guy. He should help us.

That's good to hear. :D Who do you see coming out of the lineup to facilitate his insertion in? Pateryn in the short-term? Emelin in the long-term?

Tough month ahead with lots of games to be played. I'd like to see them spell Marky for a few games to ensure he's well rested for the run. Especially on BTB games. Otherwise i see MT rotating Emelin and Gilbert in and out.

You can understand him wanting to go to market. Willing to bet he'd play for less in a better situation.

Yep.

I'd want to get out of Edmonton, too. He can probably get the same money playing in a much better situation next season. And Edmonton, despite constantly getting high draft picks, cannot seem to get things together.

These are the kinds of deadline rentals that I can get behind :). I don't like messing with the existing team for the most part, but adding a solid player without losing anything off the roster (or any first round picks) is a-ok in my books.

Sure the kids have all been playing great and it would be nice to give them more ice time, but that's something that we should have been looking at earlier in the season (or last season, or even the season before that....). We're heading into the playoffs now, and I'm happy to have another solid top-4 guy.
