BITS AND PIECES GLEANED FROM THE FLOOR

The Senators are a desperate team as they try to catch the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Senators are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, but a 3-1 loss to the Bruins Tuesday night left them seven points behind Boston. The Senators also lost a point Saturday when they blew a 4-0 lead and lost 5-4 to Calgary in a shootout.

While the Senators are 19 points behind the Canadiens in the standings, they have a 2-1 edge over Montreal in the season series with all the wins coming on home ice. In their most recent encounter, the Senators were 4-2 winners on Feb. 18 as goalie Andrew Hammond made 42 saves in his first NHL start. Hammond, whose nickname is The Hamburglar, has a 7-0-1 record.

THE SENS ARE HUNGRY,,, 8-1-1 IN THEIR LAST 10GP.

US,,, NOT SO MUCH, 5-2-3 IN OUR LAST 10GP.

Season series: The Ottawa Senators have won two of three games against the Montreal Canadiens. Rookie goalie Andrew Hammond defeated the Canadiens on Feb. 18 to win his first NHL start.

Senators team scope: Ottawa has won 10 of its past 14 games but its hopes to reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs took a step back Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins, who extended their lead for the second wild card from the Eastern Conference to seven points. "We knew how important it was coming into it but at the same time we can't do anything now," Senators center Kyle Turris told the Ottawa Sun following the loss in Boston. "It's not something you can dwell on. We're seven points back with a game in hand so we've got to work our tails off to make up those points and get back into it." The Senators did not practice Wednesday. Goalie Craig Anderson made his second consecutive start Tuesday two days after returning from a right hand injury. Hammond went 7-0-1 during Anderson's absence.

Canadiens team scope: Montreal did not practice Wednesday following a 1-0 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, its first game at Bell Centre after a four-game, eight-day road trip. Coach Michel Therrien credited his players for their effort against Tampa Bay, which drew within one point of Montreal for the Atlantic Division lead. "You could tell the more the game went on and more the lack of energy that we got was probably due to that long trip that we just came back (from)," Therrien said. "And that first game, it's always, always demanding to play and all the teams face that situation when they come back." Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who leads the League in wins, goals-against-average and save percentage, made 35 saves and lowered his GAA to 1.87 while raising his save percentage to .937.

Well my Habs are in trouble. I have been a hab fan for 68 years and this team is really in trouble! I did not like MT when he was the coach the last time and was happy to see him go. He did not work out in Pitts and now he is back. His coaching style is brutal. If he and MB think that the Habs are going to get through the playoffs with Max doing all of the scoring and CP stopping 40-45 shots per game they are insane.

This team has a lot of talent but it is left in the dressing room thanks to MT. The style of play this team presents when it steps on the ice is terrible and does nothing to support the history of the jersey these guys are wearing. The power play ( excuse me the word power does not belong in this situation ) is dismal and is an embarrassment to the organization. Why is that when we are winning MT feels like the lines should be shuffled? Why is that we cannot even get the puck out of our zone and are overpowered by the checking offence? I had a lot of respect for Smith-Pelle but what has he done since his arrival. Where the hell is the secondary scoring?

MT has to go and the sooner the better. This team is a disaster right now and will go nowhere in the playoffs. The only reason we are in first is because of the stellar play of CP. Just think if he had a team in front of him that could not only protect the crease but create an offence that could give Carey a little room to work each night. The game against TB was a prime example. Great game and a fluke deflection off Gilbert's skate to lose a big game. CP stood on his head with nothing to show but one point.

Tonight will not be an easy contest especially if Ottawa plays the "Hamburglar" I am almost afraid to watch as this team needs a lot of help and they are not going to get it with MT behind the bench.

We need Babcock in Montreal!!!

Are we assuming that whomever put these lines down just got them mixed up, or are 2 lines playing with guys in their off-wings (ie if Patches and Eller are supposed to be on the left then are Parenteau and Weise on the wrong side?) I mean I know Galchenyuk has been tried on the Left side so is he going to stay there & PAP goes on his off wing?

Im hopeful that MT gives PAP a chance at least on that line. Lets hope its not 3 shifts then demote him to the 4th. We could definitely use PAP's abilities if he can get going a bit. Even a point every other game (which is well below his career average) would be welcome at this point.

I'm sorry Jed, I'll put in a requisition, for MT to change the lines. ;)

Habs Childrens Telethon is on tonight. MB is offering up a team signed stick, and a game with MB in his box, (all the booze you can drink  ).

OT, but evidently we did some damage to the Bolts on Tues. Forward Ondrej Palat (52 PTs) will miss 2-3 weeks because of a lower-body injury, defenseman Braydon Coburn will be out 4-6 weeks because of a lower-body injury and forward Cedric Paquette (12 Goals), will miss 10-14 days because of an upper-body injury.
