kinot-1
Seeing as there has been some discussion about who we might draft, or who is on your wish list. I think it's appropriate to begin to discuss the upcoming draft and how it pertains to the Habs. It might be a tad early, but things will pick up, as we move closer to the draft dates. Will we move up, down, trade a pick for a player, or trade a player for a pick? That said, here's the deal so far: Montreal will pick 26th, 87th, 131st, 177th, and 207th. They do not own a second-round or a fourth-round pick, as they were acquired by Edmonton in the Jeff Petry trade. Montreal's fifth -ound pick belongs to Florida due to the Mike Weaver deal, however they re-acquired a fifth rounder in the trade that sent Daniel Briere to Colorado in exchange for P.A. Parenteau. jedimaas
will be interesting to see if we move any players for picks or try to move up in the draft. I have a sneaking suspicion we may see a deal or 2 before our first pick that day...

Although I've heard it said that this year's draft is a deep one. The crappy part is that most teams who have what we need (top line RW) and need what we have (quality depth players to flesh out a roster) are those who pretty much all just got new coaches. Its still possible they would move a guy but it seems less likely now that their new coach hasnt had a chance to evaluate players (ie Kessel, Yakupov etc)

jennifer_rocket
Ugh, 26th overall. I wonder what sort of "project" we are going to draft this year? Will it be a Max Pacioretty or a David Fischer?

East_Coast_Juggalo_13
I wonder where it is such a deep draft if it would not be in our best interest to trade down? If so what would be an acceptable price for the 26th overall pick?

If so what would be an acceptable price for the 26th overall pick? Seeing that we don't have a 2nd, or a 4th rd. pick, IMO, we "could" trade the 26th pick for a high 2nd (35-40), and a 4th rounder. truehabs
What do you guys think of the Habs selecting either Colin White © http://www.tsn.ca/colin-white-centre-1.294100or Jansen Harkins ©http://www.tsn.ca/jansen-harkins-centre-1.293886 or Daniel Sprong (RW) http://www.tsn.ca/daniel-sprong-right-wing-1.293936

In all seriousness, i bet you our 1st + a vet might move us up into a 12-18 th position depending upon the player. Not a huge improvement but possibly a move we could make. Edmonton (they have pittsburghs' 16th overall) may well be interested in dealing that for say our 1st and emelin. 1st + DD may well move us up to the teens for a team with size needing some mid-roster scoring depth. My only hope is that the rumors we've heard about plekanec dont involve pleks + our 1st for a teams' 1st...unless its like Carolina/NJ/Philly etc.

The 6-foot, 191-pound forward has well-regarded shot and can hold onto the puck to create plays. Also solid in defensive end.

Ranked 7 or better: 38.1%Ranked 5 or worse: 33.3%At least 100 NHL games (or extremely likely): 85.7% Anything between 15 and 25 (inclusive) and you may get marginally improved odds at a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman, but that also seems to be the area of the biggest risk. That may be attributed to a number of factors. It may be that the more secure (consensus) picks have already been made in the top 14. Between 15 and 25 there are some poor odds, as there is less consensus. That leaves the last few picks in the round as either 1st rounders that were rightly passed on, or high 2nd rounders being picked early. With that in mind, if you're going to trade up, you might as well shoot for 14th or lower. Granted, this draft is supposed to be deep, but that doesn't necessarily mean the odds change much. Colorado, Florida, Dallas, LA, Boston own the 10th - 14th picks, respectively.

kinot-1
EOTP: "General manager Marc Bergevin said he is open to a trade involving his first-round pick Friday night and added that could mean moving up or down. “If someone we really like falls to No. 20, we might move up,” Bergevin said. “The top end of the draft is very strong, but there’s not much difference between the players at the bottom of the first round and the players who are available in the second round, so we might trade our first-round pick for two second-round picks. There are seven teams with more than one pick in the second round. But to make any deal, you have to find a team that’s willing to work with you.”

RicochetII
Not really sure where to post this, but Dougie Hamilton is a Flame. I think this thread is for prospect talk and what happens during the draft? The Free Agency thread is probably the place for all of the off season moves. That's where I've been going anyway. Don't think it hurts to have it in both though.

Yeah, I could see it fitting in either one. Especially since this trade involved 3 picks in this draft, I saw it fitting well in here. The fre agency thread seemed more appropriate for signings and stuff, but given that Hamilton is a RFA, it definitely fits there too. At least now no one here will miss it. This thread should get more active as the day goes on and deals - especially those involving draft picks should be fine here. By the way, Giordano-Hamilton? Thats got to be one of the better 1st pairings in the league now.
