caperns
While all of your statements are true, it's impossible to draw an accurate conclusion of cause and effect in this situation. One could easily argue that Galchenyuk is having the success that he is now as a result of Therrien allowing him the time to develop on the wing and gain the confidence needed at the NHL level. I'm not saying this is the case. I'm just saying that it is not so black and white. It's important to remember that Chucky made the immediate jump to the NHL after being drafted and during his draft year he missed the majority of the season due to injury. Perhaps the club wanted to purposefully ease him in to the role given the expectations in the market that he is playing in and his previous time away from the game. He could have been eased ( gained confidence ) into the league at center also, not going back and forth from center to the wing, because you want to plug third and fourth line players in that role. I have no dought if he had played center since he arrived he would be ahead of where he is now at the center ice position. What will be sad is when he goes a few games without scoring two goals a game he will end up on the wing playing with DD to get DD going.... Habs=stanleycup
'While many NHL players like to tinker with their sticks, using blowtorches, files and other tools to make adjustments, Galchenyuk prefers to keep things simple.' http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/nhl/new-stick-helps-alex-galchenyuk-find-magic-touch-for-montreal-canadiens
BigTed3
Galchenyuk is now 16th in the league in goals. He has as many goals as Tavares and more goals than the likes of Pacioretty, Toews, Simmonds (whom people wanted to trade him for), Hall, and Kopitar to name a few. Imagine if he had been playing 1st line minutes and center all season long. He is now 4th in the league in goals per 60 minutes played among centers, behind only Seguin, Spezza, and Pavelski. Now compare TOI at 5v5 for those players... Seguin gets 15.29 minutes per 60, Spezza 13.42, Pavelski 15.12. Galchenyuk? 12.23. So let's extrapolate. If Galchenyuk played Seguin's or Pavelski's ice time, he'd have another 4-5 goals at ES. If we add in PP production, Galchenyuk scores 2.49 goals per 60 with a man up. He gets 2.56 minutes of PP time per game. Seguin gets 3.35 minutes on the PP per game. So give Galchenyuk another minute of PP time per game and he'd have another 3 PP goals this season already. So let's add that up. Galchenyuk now has 26 goals. But if he had gotten Seguin's ice time, he'd have an extra 7-8 goals this year, putting him at 33-34 for the season already. Where is Seguin? 33. Galchenyuk would be just as good and he'd be in the top 5 for goal-scorers in the league, only clearly behind Ovechkin and Kane and in the same vicinity as Benn, Seguin, Marchand, and Tarasenko. The only thing stopping Galchenyuk from being a top 5 scorer in the league? Utilization, ice time, coaching...

The only thing stopping Galchenyuk from being a top 5 scorer in the league? Utilization, ice time, coaching... Worse still? Even with the injuries and Therrien being forced to use Galchenyuk in a top line capactiy, Byron, Mitchell, Andrighetto and Pacioretty all had more ice time than him last night. I get that AG27 doesnt kill penalties (although I think he probably could) but we only had 4. There is no conceivable reason why Paul Byron or Torey Mitchell should be getting more minutes than Alex Galchneyuk. None. At any time. But especially not when two of our top 4 centres (Eller and DD) are out - and yet - thats what happened - Galchenyuk gets 14+ minutes, Byron and Mitchell get 18+ & 16+ respectively. Inconceivable. Eyez
Last night SN showed that since Feb 24, Chucky has 12 goals & the COMBINED rest of the Habs team had 14.... There is NO WAY that MT can ever say that Chucky as 1st line center created no offence... or that DD there would create MOAR.

No. MT will use the "spreading the offense around" argument to move Galchenyuk away from center duties with Pacioretty. We'll see him skating ~15 minutes a night, probably back on the wing, because... ya know, gotta use that blender.

Wow, that's crazy, even by our current standards. We're not splitting hairs when we talk about 14 vs 18 minutes - that's pretty substantial, penalty kill time or no. Manatee-X
Check out this factoid from the most recent TSN power rankings : In 11 games this month, the Habs have two players with more than a single goal: Torrey Mitchell, who has two, and Alex Galchenyuk, who has 10. Seriously, I know we've got injuries, but how crazy is that? It's just so silly to think that we've been limiting his ice time all year long. This is not a player who needs to be sheltered or protected.
BigTed3
Winner of the Molson Cup, bringing Carey Price's 5-year run to an end. A well-deserved award for Galchenyuk this year, proving that when it's not the organization fraudulently assigning awards to players (i.e. Masterton nomination for coach's pet Pacioretty over the hated PK Subban), fans and media are getting the choices right. BigTed3
Lowest average time on ice of any player in the league to hit thirty goals this season. Also had a lower TOI than he did last year. Galchenyuk did this DESPITE his coach, not because of it. So next time you hear Michel Therrien trying to take credit for Galchenyuk's development, you will be able to confidently state that this is a lie. Kudos to the player for overcoming his coach to reach that milestone.
