His average ice time this season was (slightly) less than last year. He might have scored 40 if he got the playing time he deserved.

But,,, but,,, but,,, MT was protecting him from the Shea Webers of the NHL. Earth to MT,,,, there will "always" be the Webers, Doughtys, and others like them in the NHL.

The two games he did get with Pacioretty earlier in the season were without Gallagher (when he was injured) and he was matched up against Bergeron and Chara the first game and Doughty and Kopitar the next. MT did nothing to try and get a favourable matchup for him (I believe we even had home ice for at least one of these games). I can kind of see what MT was doing; he was using it as a test. But to match him up against two perenial Selke candidates and a top 3 defenceman in the league, as well as a past Norris winner, and then give up after two games, kind of appears to be an attempt to rig the deck and verify his own predetermined conclusions.

Yup.....Gally isn't going to get better if he doesn't play against the best. It's not like this was Gally's first year in the league.

Yup, Therrien is actually trying to take credit for Galchenyuk's success, despite limiting his ice time and keeping him off center. Therrien stated Galchenyuk wasn't ready to play center or play the first line but both this year AND last year, he had his greatest success being the 1C. He's always done better under pressure. When MT finally gave him more ice time and better linemates, Galchenyuk flourished. There is nothing to demonstrate Galchenyuk wasn't ready, so any assessment to that degree from Therrien just shows the coach has zero ability to evaluate talent and potential.

Usually head-coach is a pretty brutal job - it's almost always a matter of when, not if, you get fired.

But Therrien has it made. Takes the credit when things go well, blames Subban when things go badly. And apparantly MT is buying it.

Yup. Therrien and Bergevin spend all their time slamming their own stars and setting low expectations. If someone like Subban or Galchenyuk play badly, they just say the player isn't ready and needs to be taught lessons. When they play well, then Therrien is right there to take all the credit for "bringing him along slowly at just the right pace."

For example, Therrien says that Galchenyuk has progressed nicely this year and that the team has done well to bring him along and put him in a position to succeed. Well the numbers actually show that Galchenyuk had a higher point-per-ice-time production in the first half of the year. Yet he got more points in the second half. So the difference was not that the player suddenly became better, it's simply that he player was given more ice time. But was the player given more ice time because of the coach? No, he was actually given more ice time in spite of the coach's wishes. He got ice time because of the rash of injuries, specifically the one to coach's pet David Desharnais. Without that, Therrien would have stuck with his mantra that Galchenyuk "didn't want the responsibility of playing center" and "had no chemistry with Pacioretty." Therrien was backed into something that worked then tried to take credit for it. fans are smarter than that. A lot of media members caught on as well. The act the MT/MB duo is selling just isn't working. People are too smart to believe Therrien deserves any kind of credit for Galchenyuk or Subban or Price. These players are simply skilled players who overcame the coaching they've been forced to deal with.

And apparently they expect us to buy it too.

Pacioretty today saying in interview that he thought the Habs handled Galchenyuk very well and that he progressed nicely and wasn't ready before he got his chance at the end of the year... basically repeating word for word what Bergevin and Therrien have said.

None of those three men have even looked at the data that showed Galchenyuk was producing at the same clip BEFORE he was the #1 center. He WAS ready at the start of the year. He was probably ready to be our #1C last year too. The only difference in production when he became the 1C was that he was getting more minutes and hence his absolute numbers went up. But to the eye test, Galchenyuk was our best and most consistent forward all season. I find it dishonest and insulting for Pacioretty and Therrien to tell us otherwise. And this is exactly why I dislike Pacioretty as captain, when all he does is act as a mouthpiece for the coach. The team needs someone to lead the players, not someone to toe the party line every single night.

I am really surprised he didn't make Team USA or Team North America. I guess playing for the Montreal Canadiens is not really good for your international playing career. It's funny, players purposefully leave teams in European soccer to get into better playing situations so they can called up for international duty. I wonder if his failure to make the team had anything to do with the way he's used in Montreal.
