fnveenie
He was involved in a car accident at around 6:30 this morning where the vehicle he was a passenger in, driven by a 20 year-old woman hit a tree. Kassian was seen by witnesses to be "bloodied and disoriented". He was taken to Montreal General Hospital where he is being treated by team doctors for minor injuries. Hopefully he is okay, but what was he doing out at 6:30 AM? Probably nothing he should be up to.

Habberwacky
I am hoping they were on their way to mass. This is not a good start and the distractions will be dealt with quickly I am sure. Having said that I hope both of them are okay. Those trees never look both ways when their crossing!!!

jennifer_rocket
I don't know... People are allowed to go out and party. The regular season doesn't start until Thursday. He's a young guy, and if you don't think young NHLers are going out and partying with young women... Well, I think you may be wrong. Thankfully it sounds like he's okay. None of us know exactly what was going on. At least he wasnt driving. Hopefully there are no lasting affects & this is just a very small footnote for his season. jedimaas
ugg. Broken foot is not a good thing to start his career here. Then again, by the time he comes back, a lot of the pressure will be off & we'll have a clearer idea of the team we have.
fnveenie
Bergevin not at all impressed in his press conference today. He was pretty blunt in his words about the incident calling it "a lack of character and judgement on [Kassian's] part." He also said it is "safe to say" he is on a short leash. Not looking good for Zack's future in Montreal.

It'll be interesting to see how the next few days play out. He's not on IR yet, is he?
BigTed3
Yeah, that seems the general consensus. Even without knowing exactly what went down, the optics are awful. It'll be interesting to see how the next few days play out. He's not on IR yet, is he? Kassian was a passenger in the car. Yes, it was probably a bad idea for him to be out at 6:30AM with a possible drunk driver towing him around, but he didn't break any laws himself. He's 24. It's his first year in Montreal. He's not the first kid to be overwhelmed by his celebrity in this city. Just to put this in perspective, Dany Heatley was driving a car and speeding at more than twice the limit, crashed after he lost control, killed someone, and pled guilty to vehicular homicide. He did zero penance for what he did. In my view, Kassian's taking more heat for this than he should be. I have no tolerance for drunk drivers, and Kassian certainly should have showed better judgment, but he's as much a victim here as he is at fault. People should be talking about how stupid the girl driving the car was and not spend as much time blaming Kassian.
Guest
Bad judgement on his part if the driver of HIS vehicle was DUI. Fortunately nobody lost their life in this one. That tree could have just as easily been another car. I'm assuming it was his vehicle. Please correct me if i'm wrong. I don't have a problem with him partying till late, seeing as they had the next day off, but you need to be smarter regarding transportation. That's the part i find unacceptable. Again,,,,i'm assuming the driver had been drinking, and will retract if proven otherwise. In this day and age,,,,use your brain.
Guest Regis2
So MB, if you value character AND you did your homework , why trade for the guy https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/zack-kassian-accident-shows--a-lack-of-character---says-canadiens-gm-173345026.html Bergevin, who has yet to speak to Kassian, said that he was aware of the forward's reputation for late nights and that he’s been spoken to in the past by GMs on his previous teams. "Perfection is not a part of this world but if mistakes keep happening then maybe there's a pattern here,” Bergevin said.
rkgoalie
if the female was drunk, letting someone drive you truck is not a mistake, he should know better buy now, he gets a fresh start in a great hockey city and this is what he does,?? BigTed3
Kassian sent to rehab and suspended without pay until then... there must be more to this story than meets the eye. No one has ever said whether it was his car or not. Again, not saying Kassian displayed good judgment, just that the driver should be held more responsible than the passenger in this case. kinot-1
Geno Reda: "Zack Kassian of the Canadiens has been placed in Stage Two of the Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program (SABH) of the NHL and NHLPA." Guest Regis2
, just that the driver should be held more responsible than the passenger in this case. I agree but this is professional sports . He should not have put himself in the position he did considering according to the attached article he was spoken to about his off-ice reputation http://montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/nhl/montreal-canadiens/stu-cowan-habs-gm-bergevin-pulls-no-punches-with-kassian-situation
jedimaas
Kassian sent to rehab and suspended without pay until then... there must be more to this story than meets the eye. Whoa. Yeah, lot more to it imho. This is very surprising. have to wonder if he had other issues like coming to practice under the influence or something. Considering he's only been in montreal a short time this is very surprising news. Trying to look at it glass half full: maybe this is exactly what he needs and he will get help, get a fresh start & becoming the power forward everyone seems to think he is capable of becoming! No one has ever said whether it was his car or not. Again, not saying Kassian displayed good judgment, just that the driver should be held more responsible than the passenger in this case. Im almost positive one of the reports (maybe HIO) noted that it was in face his truck (police report said it was the male passenger's vehicle). habsisme
Tsn just did a story on increased cocaine use with NHL players. Maybe related. I don't fault anyone for putting whatever they want into their bodies and I think the damaging effects of most drugs (all actually) are greatly exaggerated. BUT you're an athlete! You can't keep repeatedly putting garbage into your body and if you do then there isn't much hope for you reaching your potential in the NHL. As far as the Habs are concerned, Kassian should be on a short leash. One more hiccup or even a prolonged slump, and there's no reason to not just get rid of him. I suspect his days in the NHL are numbered at this point, I have little faith that he will turn it around fast enough to save his career
