Predicting Every NHL Team's Top Rookie for the 2015-16 NHL Season

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2523110-predicting-every-nhl-teams-top-rookie-for-the-2015-16-nhl-season/page/17

Stats: Montreal Canadiens right wing Nikita Scherbak scored 27 goals and 82 points in 65 games last season with the WHL's Everett Silvertips. The 19-year-old also collected eight points in 11 playoff games.

Profile: A skilled offensive winger, the Russian-born Scherbak experienced little difficulty adjusting to the North American game. He's also filling out his 6'2” frame, weighing in at 195 pounds. Scherbak has also improved his skating and defensive skills.

Outlook: The Canadiens lack scoring depth at right wing, as the skill level drops sharply behind Brendan Gallagher. With his offensive talent, Scherbak has a decent shot at making the Habs lineup this fall.

He is the player I want to see in Montréal soon. With Semin coming on the right wing, I think we can give him more experience in the AHL and hopefully he'll be ready next year (or this year if Semin don't give what we expect from him).

Even if Semin does play well, there are no doubt going to be some injuries throughout the year. Scherbak should at least get a limited call-up so that we can see what he can do in the NHL.

I can't help but think guys like; Scherbak , McCarron and Fucale are going to be playing in St. John'as with the hopes they make a calder run...

This kid intrigues me. He puts on 30 lbs in a year, grows a couple inches....and now has the power forward body to go with the skills...Nick needs a taste of the show this year, to help him realize what is needed for a full time gig next year.

Cant wait to see what he can do.

As far as coaching goes. I understand having a defensive framework is important to win....however, no one ever won anything with 1 goal games. My concerns about the coaching deal with the stifling of creativity. When many of the new players came to the nhl, they were fast, and creative. They made nice plays and everyone applauded their hockey sense and vision....after half a season with MT calling the shots, all the creativity is gone. The systems MT employs are based on a 1 trick pony style of play. Create a gimmick and run with it until everyone figures out how to defend against it.....then use it for a bit longer. (Kovalev 1/2 boards wrist shot play, Subban slapper from the point, Patches on the wing) If you watch the DAllas Stars coach, Ruff, he is an excellent play maker. He was almost the master of the lat ditch effort play. If he was down a goal with 2 mins left, out came the white board....and more times than not he got the goal. MT doesn't have that skill....and its stifling the habs.

It's so ridiculous that this hasn't been addressed.

I think the priority has been to get a coach who can teach young players on how to play sound defensive hockey. Something most players cannot do coming out of junior. We have not had enough depth in the organization to be going after a Calder since Bergevin has taken over, but this may be a good challenge for Lefebvre this season. He may get exposed, but if Bergevin feels he is getting solid results from his players entering the NHL I am not sure why he would want to make a change. Most of these players are drafted for their offensive skill set so they know what they are getting and the job is to develop them for the NHL. On the otherr hand having young players in the system with AHL playoff experience woould be a great asset and if he cannot produce with the cast Bergevin has assembled for him we may see a change within a year or two.

Darn. I saw this thread in new content and thought he might have been called up.

Cool. Thanks for the information. I hope this is the case. Otherwise, playing him for 9 games would be fairly detrimental to his development.

Yes he has definitely had some injury issues. He just made his comeback a week or two ago.
