Guest
Low risk with possible high reward deal. Smart move.

Guest
I hope this doesnt turn out to be Scott Gomez 2.0 One year deal. Can't really go wrong. If he bombs he sits. I'm OK with it. Who knows,,,,he may click with us. Now reporting it's for 1.1 mill. Chump change in the NHL.
tony5775
Finally something gets done, this is a great move. Sure the 1.1 has many bonus clauses involved and will hopefully motivate him to play a better game.
Guest
Questionable if i would call this a great move. I think it's a solid gamble with very little on the line. He's been pretty much a bust his last couple of seasons, so we'll see how much of a leash MT gives him in Montreal. Not sure how much of an upgrade it is on PAP, but it has potential to be big. Manatee-X
I LOVE this deal. It's basically either a big win (we get some offense that we need) or completely neautral (we just sit him, and for that much money against the cap we're not missing out on much). CorpsPeauRate
So nice! Great deal, hope he fit well and have fun here! So he score 30goal +! Hope some more move before the season start too!
kinot-1
i was kinda hoping for one of our prospects to get a chance.
habsonbrain
A prospect could still make the line up but it's great to have options
kinot-1
I hope this doesnt turn out to be Scott Gomez 2.0 whenever I hear Semin's name, I think of his "fight/love-taps"
HabsRuleForever
Great another defensive forward. Therrien will love him.
CaptWelly
It's one year at very low cost on a player that has huge offensive potential. This gives us two strong PP units. I like this deal myself.
jeff33
game 1: unaware of the impenetrable defensive shell our coach has established, semin makes the cardinal sin of attempting to make a play to score a goal...AND LOSES THE PUCK he is benched forthwith and forevermore. 10 games later: he is "given a chance" playing with mitchell and weise. he fails to score 2 points per game and is thus benched again post haste. in one final attempt to get him going, he is placed on a line with pacioretty and galchenyuk. the line scores on its first shift, is broken up and never put together again for the remainder of the season. Guest
Barring a NMC in his contract (which i would be surprised to hear MB agreed to) or any other clause,,,this is pretty much a no risk move. If we need to waive him, and he gets sent down, then all but 200K of that gets written off the Cap and we're back to square one.

jennifer_rocket
I think this is an excellent move by Bergevin. Even though he hasn't been scoring as much as he has in the past few seasons, for $1.1 million we will get the commensurate production. If we get something more, well... STEAL! He should be good for another 20+ goals.
jedimaas
I LOVE this deal. It's basically either a big win (we get some offense that we need) or completely neautral (we just sit him, and for that much money against the cap we're not missing out on much). This. To me this is a brilliant move. I am guessing MB did his typical "here's my offer, call me if you want it" and waited since July 1. He got his man - at his price - something very few GMs seem to be able to do. The only concern I have is that I just cant see Semin clicking in a Therrien-run "system." Sort of like running the kentucky derby in La Brea Tar Pits. Hopefully Im wrong.
kinot-1
He's only 1 year removed from decent numbers.
kinot-1
Hmmmmm,, both Kassian and Semin were drafted 13th overall in their respected years. Do we feel lucky?
BizarreReverend
At that term and salary, it's hard to complain, although I shudder when I imagine jeff33's scenario playing out.
kinot-1
"Alex is a pure goal scorer with a good shot," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "We believe his addition to our group of forwards will strengthen our offensive production and our power play."
ramcharger440
i fell good about this,if he shows up and plays to his level we will really get a good bump from him if he floats.... also it seems he spoke to markov about coming here as they are close and marky helped him decide so he must have an idea of how the team works. bell75
If another team had picked him up for 1.1, I would have wondered why our GM didn't get him, but our GM did get him, and this looks like a great signing for all the reasons people are mentioning (low cap hit, high skill, short term, top 6 winger, etc). I like that Semin didn't go to the KHL, where he probably would have received more money, but instead chose to come to Montreal. MB did great, hopefully Semin can too, and hopefully his wrist injury from last season is healed.
ramcharger440
with him and kassian on the right wing and our man gallagher we are looking ok on that side or at least stronger than last year. once patches is up to speed we should be getting a bit more offence from these players.
