2015-2016 Supplementary discipline hearings

Recommended Posts

Call will go something like this

Brad,,,,,you really need to be more subtle out there. We're getting a lot of heat over here about giving you some time off. Consider this ONE of your last warnings. We're fining you $1000.00 and 6 tickets to the classic.

Good luck BTW.

Can he not appeal any suspension, so that he "could" play in the Classic?

One set of rules for Boston, one set of rules for everyone else. When it stops being accurate, I'll stop feeling a need to say it.

Not true. The Rangers also benefit from the same set of rules as the Bruins (see Kreider, Chris). Joe Thornton pinpointed those two teams as the ones that NHL players see as being favored by the league and it certainly looks like it's true.

This is a direct quote from Elliotte Friedman just now on NHL Network in the States talking to anchor EJ Hradek:

"The other thing too, is, EJ, I wouldn't be surprised if they look at a player getting suspended for the Winter Classic as more than just for example one game. Because this is one of the games the players would look forward to. He would be disappointed at this. So I don't think it'll be that high."

This is beyond asinine. It's destroying the ability for the NHL department of player safety to set anything resembling useful precedent. It's exactly the kind of useless, pro-dirty player idiocy we've come to expect from the league front office. It's a regular season game worth 2 points, just like every single other one. If they're seriously going to go easy on Marchand yet again, break their own precedent rules, AND imperil future punishment because an indisputably dirty player with a record might "be disappointed", what's possibly left to say?

So if McKenzie had given Subban a concussion with his hit to the head last night, would he have to be suspended longer to make up for the fact that it would be really disappointing for PK to miss the Winter Classic? You're right, it's utter stupidity. The WC is a dumb game and basically just a commercial-driven enterprise for the NHL anyways, but no matter whether you think it's special or not, it's one regular season game and worth the same as any other game in the standings. I can maybe buy a playoff game being worth a bit more, but the truth is that Marchand should get 8+ games for this hit (and his spear) and he won't. Favoritism Bruins to the extreme yet again.

And there you go... 3 games only.

Borowiecki lands on his head/neck, luckily avoiding injury, but it's clearly a deliberate cheapshot from Marchand, who has a history of the exact same type of cheapshot. Yet he gets FEWER games than he did the first time. How is that even possible? Raffi Torres sees his suspension numbers going up each time, Marchand sees it going down... that's pro-Boston from the NHL dept of player safety.

Even the Sportsnet panel thinks it's too low of a suspension.

They should. You have a standard of 5 games for what he did last time. If you have the same player making the same type of illegal hit, you would think there's no way it could be less this time than the last time. So how does the NHL come up with 3? It's because they made it up and didn't base that number on facts.

I wonder if the suspension would be the same if Borowiecki, didn't return. Would an injury have made the suspension longer?

There is absolutely nothing the NHL can say to justify this decision. Kangaroo court.

This is just what the NHL marketing department ordered. Marchand suspended 3 games and back just in time to play against Ottawa on Jan 9th. Guaranteed it will be a rough game which is what the NHL is selling(gotta compete with football). Curious as to why there wasn't supplemental discipline for the spear by Marchand.

Swept under the rug.

Here's a hit from behind by Komarov on Letang in tonight's laffs at pitts game. Komarov got 2 for boarding, Letang followed concussion protocol.

Methinks it's good for at least 2 games. It's not on YouTube yet.

I was just pursuing some of marchands hit, and he did the same thing to Filpula (sp), in Mar. of this year. No penalty of course. Filpula didn't have the puck either. It starts with Samkos fight marchand,,, but then shows the marchand hit at 1:00.

Not really the same thing. Clipping is considered to be a hit at or below the knees. Marchand hits Filppula on the thighs, which is still legal. Nevertheless, it doesn't excuse his low hit now, and who knows if he intended to hit Filppula low as well. The guy relaly doesn't understand. He's no better than Raffi Torres or Matt Cooke or Milan Lucic or Patrick Kaleta. Frankly none of those players should still be in the NHL.
