The Habs and Maple Leafs meet for a second time this week on Saturday, this time at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Canadiens traveled to Toronto following their morning skate in Brossard and will return to Montreal following Saturday’s action at the Air Canada Centre, marking a rare same-day road trip for Michel Therrien’s men.

Playing their third game in as many nights, the Habs are coming off a 5-1 loss to Chicago on Friday. Newcomer Zack Kassian was the Canadiens’ lone goal scorer, beating Blackhawks netminder Scott Darling with a backhand shot in the second period. Habs hopeful Charles Hudon impressed in the preseason tuneup, firing four shots on goal – second-most among his teammates behind just Brendan Gallagher. Carey Price played the entire game, stopping 26 of the 30 shots he faced.

Following the morning’s reassignments, Saturday’s game will be one of the last for Canadiens hopefuls to impress the Habs brass. Four games remain on the preseason schedule as Therrien continues to trim his roster before the club’s October 7 season opener. IceCaps training camp begins on September 28 in St-John’s, and Michael McCarron, Gabriel Dumont, Sven Andrighetto, Daniel Carr, Darren Dietz, Joel Hanley, Jeremy Gregoire and Bud Holloway will all be in uniform for the Canadiens on Saturday.

Goaltenders Dustin Tokarski and Mike Condon will also make the trip to Toronto, with Condon expected to play the entire game. James Reimer and Garret Sparks should split the work in goal for the Leafs. P.-A. Parenteau meanwhile will not be dressed to face his former team.

In their first game of the preseason, Michael McCarron scored the Canadiens' only goal, while William Nylander got Toronto on the board in the second and Jake Gardiner sealed the Leafs win 16 seconds into overtime.

Leafs pulling out all the big guns against a roster we're still using to screen prospects and new acquisitions.

I hope we beat the tar out of them.

Did you Chicago's roster last night ?

lol..........not exactly a " big guns " lineup

Pretty sure the Canadiens know what their lineup is going to . There aren't a lot of openings

We put out more regular roster players than Chicago last night. Believe it or not, Toronto's lineup has most of their best available players on it. They'll really only have Phaneuf, Lupul, and Bernier to add before it looks like their regular season lineup. I won't debate that it's unimpressive, but against this group it's more so.

Nobody on the fourth line is a lock and the third line wings are also available for anyone who shows they belong. Granted, we'll only see one or two of those positions filled by newcomers. McCarron will probably start the year in St. John's, but it looks like the club likes what it sees from him. Fleischmann might find himself somewhere on our third line. Tinordi could be a rotating healthy scratch/ third pairing defenceman depending on what we see from some of the others.

I was glad to see some of the troops sent down today. It will provide the vets some more ice-time as we get ready for the season. There were some funny goals last night, lets hope we get a few bounces tonight. Hudon looks like he is going to make Bergevin's choice a lot tougher as he has been one of the only bright spots so far. Tinordi has the spotlight tonight if he wants to take a spot on the backend this year he needs to start to put it together tonight as it looks pretty average other than Pateryn ( all challengers for the bottom spot are dressed). Desharnais is the only regular centre other than JDR playing centre. The forward group appears designed to raise the competition for third and fourth line positions and it may be tough for some to get another look if they under-perform tonight.

The next couple of games should be interesting as I am sure a few more will be let go after tonight. I can see DSP, and Flynn as the most likely to get bumped/ sent down or moved. Especially DSP as we have some other players who can grind it out. He had a couple of nice hits last game but not much more.

I think a lot of the regualrs are still floating and getting ready for the season feeling pretty secure in their positions. Its tonights group that had better show up as they may start running out of chances to join the big club. I was a pretty ugly game last night.

Finally caught up, started watching late.

Better game so far.

A lot of clutching along the board areas by Toronto, but they seem to be fighting the puck more like we were last night.

Desharnais has been playing well. Condon and Dietz have been noticeable as well.

Kassian was looking okay until he fought. DSP isn't as invisible as he usually is.

All in all, more entertaining than last night's game!
