One steak ends and another begins, hopefully, we can start another winning streak tonight.

At Vancouver, Tomas Plekanec saw his five-game point streak end in Vancouver and the line of Plekanec, Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher was limited to five shots on goal. Fourth-liner Torrey Mitchell scored his fourth goal of the season when he deflected a shot by Alexei Emelin. The assist was Emelin’s first point this season.

With back-to-back games on the schedule — the Canadiens are in Calgary Friday — Habs coach Michel Therrien will probably split the goaltending duties and this seems to be the right spot for backup Mike Condon (2-0, 1.50 goals-against average). That will give Carey Price extra time to refocus after giving up five goals in Vancouver.

Injuries:

Bournival, Michael,,,, Concussion

Away Record 5-1-0

Meanwhile, Connor McDavid, the No. 1 overall pick in June’s draft, has been an instant hit with the Oilers. He is scoring at a point-per-game clip with five goals and five assists in 10 games. Nail Yakupov, who was the first overall draft pick in 2012, is next with two goals and seven assists, while Taylor Hall, the No. 1 pick in 2010, has four goals and four assists.

The Oilers have lost three in a row after dropping a 5-4 decision Tuesday in Minnesota. This team has been out of the playoffs since reaching the Stanley Cup final in 2006. With a 3-7 start, the Oilers appear headed for another frustrating season.

Play Condon and rest Carey. Because I rate Calgary Flames as tougher opposition than Edmonton Oilers.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Condon tonight. Price's record against Edmonton has not been great in the Rextall Center.

Agreed. That said, there are two factors that may see Carey in nets tonight: 1) he probably wants to play immediately, after allowing a couple of soft goals tuesday.

2) With this roster we should be able to handle both teams with either goalie in net imho. Hopefully they dont come out flat and need to rely on the goalie like the last few games.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having Carey in just to try and erase the memory of the Vancouver game as quickly as possible. We really shouldn't have any problem with either team from Alberta, but man... there's just something about these Western road trips that seems to bring us down every year.

I propose a drinking game. For every time Sportsnet praises McDavid,,,, we take a drink. :P

We might not get past the first period tho.

LOL "past" the 1st period ?

we won't even get to the anthems ! :D

& Semin out & lighty smurf in  , ya this should be fun... Semin must LUV the day off <_<

Price in net is the ONLY positive so far for this game ("if" he is back ON)

Looks like the game may be televised here for a change. Might actually get to watch a game in REAL time, instead of that 2 minute delay from the game center. Keeping my fingers crossed they don't black it out.

Thanks for the GDT. I am just heading to the game shortly ( I won't Say Montreal's record when I watch the Habs and Oilers live, but feel a change is in the air tonight). Now that we have lost to Vancouver no point in losing to the Oil. As for starting Byron I would have liked to see Semin live but Byron knows the OIlers well. Oilers have called up Draiseitl too. It should make for a faced paced game. I think giving Semin tonight off may speak more to the shape he is in and Therrien's belief that they may need him more tomorrow.

If we win tonight it's likely Semin sits tomorrow too. We know MT doesn't like to change a winning lineup.

TSN Radio: Semin will sit,,,Byron takes his place. Carey is in net.

Flynn on the second line. Brilliant.

Ugg. At least if we bumped up DSP to line 2 I could live with it (id love to see Flynn-Mitchell-Byron as they are all very very fast players) but I guess MT would rather have flynn at his natural RW and Byron at LW despite Flynn not really being a 2nd liner etc.

I agree with what others have said too: even though Semin hasnt been lighting it up, if you're the opposition you cant ignore a former 40+ goal scorer. We were drawing defensive attention away from other lines & i am not sure Eller-Galchenyuk-Flynn will do that....

I'd love to be proven wrong tonight, but I don't see that combo doing a whole lot. Unless some enjoyable instant chemistry pops out of that line, and the third can get some luck, I fear we're back to being a one-line team.

This... is probably not a good idea.

Statistically ridiculous is probably closer to the truth. At least it would be to my mind.
