This Year's All-Star Game

Or, how I learned to skip it altogether.

This years All-star game will be played in Nashville on Jan 31. The NHL has, in it's infinite wisdom ( ), decided to change the format.

Here's some excerpts from Bob McKenzie's column regarding the new changes:

"The All-Star Game isn’t until Jan. 31 in Nashville, but the NHL is expected to announce some sweeping changes to the format on Wednesday, moving from the traditional 5-on-5, 60-minute game to a trio of 20-minute mini-games featuring four divisional all-star teams playing 3-on-3 hockey.
As best we can tell, it’s going to look like this:
There will be four teams of nine skaters and two goalies, one team for each of the four divisions (Atlantic and Metropolitan in the East; Central and Pacific in the West). There will be a 20-minute mini-game – likely two 10-minute halves – featuring one division versus another in 3-on-3 action followed by another 20-minute game with the other two divisions playing each other.
The two winning teams would then meet in a third 20-minute session for the so-called “championship” game. The all-star Fantasy Draft, a show the players didn’t particularly like but was needed and, at times, was an entertaining way to choose up sides, is no longer required with the players playing for their divisional teams."

Interesting that NHL.com has projected the players to be in the all star format. Sid is in with his 2G, 7A, and his -8. Maybe they expect him to surpass his Pens totals for this year in one game.

Let's be honest, with fan voting and all else that was out there for the ASG in the past.... It's not completely about skill but selling the players and tickets to the show.

Example: Mike Komisarek starting at the ASG in Montreal.

I hope he turns it down. I honestly hope he does. This would be fun if a guy like Rory got in, but I'm not putting up with them allowing John Scott to go to an All-Star game.

I think if they try to decline to go without an injury or some other issue they typically get suspended.

Also, PK the only hab going. I guess someone had to represent the team though.

TOOOOO MUCH :lol: . Looks good on the NHL.

Arizona Coyotes tough guy John Scott, voted as one of four captains for the NHL All-Star game, was sent to Springfield of the AHL on Wednesday after clearing waivers earlier this season.

Arizona coach Dave Tippett said Scott will likely be back with the Coyotes in the next couple of days, allowing him to participate in the Jan. 31 All-Star game in Nashville.

Back rub was from Amy Grant,,, Gill's wife.
