CANADIENS (16-4-2) at RANGERS (16-3-2)
TV: SNE, SNO, RDS, MSG 2

7:00pm

Season series: The Montreal Canadiens defeated the New York Rangers 3-0 in Montreal's home opener on Oct. 15 and set a franchise record for most consecutive wins (five) to start a season. Carey Price made 25 saves and Tomas Fleischmann, Dale Weise and Tomas Plekanec each scored. David Desharnais had two assists.

Canadiens team scope: Right wing Brendan Gallagher, who sustained two broken fingers blocking a shot Sunday in a 4-2 win against the New York Islanders, had surgery Monday and will miss at least six weeks. Devante Smith-Pelly, who missed the game Sunday with a lower-body injury, took Gallagher's spot on the No. 1 line with Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty at practice Tuesday. "It's a big loss. He’s a big part of the success of this hockey team," coach Michel Therrien told the Montreal Gazette, But like I said, we lost [Carey Price] for [a long time] and for me it's not an excuse to keep not having success." The Canadiens also said forward Torrey Mitchell, who sustained a lower-body injury Nov. 19 against the Arizona Coyotes, will be out at least another 7-10 days. Defenseman Alexei Emelin, who missed the past five games with a lower body injury, practiced Tuesday and is ready to return but is not expected to play Wednesday.

Rangers team scope: New York is tied with Montreal atop the Eastern Conference; each team has 34 points but the Rangers have played one fewer game. The Rangers did not practice on Tuesday. They have won nine straight home games and have scored three or more goals in each of those games. Rick Nash has four goals in his past two games. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist leads the League in goals against average (1.74) and save percentage (.946) and is tied for the lead in wins (12). "Our goalie, Hank, was unbelievable again," Nash told the Rangers website after a 3-0 victory against the Nashville Predators on Monday. "It seems to be a trend every single night that he's our best player."

There goes the franchise. We will no doubt be resuming as a chess team presently though.

Why?

Holloway? Hollowayville, Bureau County, Illinois perhaps...... Coal mining and low taxes. Ottawa-Streator district, but Rhine River low flowing out of Basel, Switzerland where fuel transport prices have gone from 5 to 40 dollars per whatever. Russian jets getting shot down. Chicago police being charged with murder on duty for like the first time in history.

Oh yeah. Storied franchise with every opportunity to get our motors running. Well maybe my motor. :P

I'm trying to make something out of being a habs fan that I can vocalize but the world has me down to the point that even a win won't help. Not today.

Emelin in & Pateryn out.

Pateryn will be part of the chess team though.

He won't beat me though/

Probably checkmate you in like 5 moves though.

I'm surprised Holloway wasn't slotted in. Why recall him - and risk losing him on waivers when he goes back down - if we're not going to use him?

Trade? With the numbers he's put up this year I could see him having appeal as part of a package trade but it seems odd they would move him without even giving him a game with the big club so i dunno.

So, I guess we won't be able to blame the refs. You know what that means. razz_zps9um7ix50.gif

RULE 17 razz_zps9um7ix50.gif RULE 17 razz_zps9um7ix50.gif RULE 17 razz_zps9um7ix50.gifRULE 17 razz_zps9um7ix50.gif RULE 17 razz_zps9um7ix50.gif

Yeah. Not sure if there's a sub-section to Rule 17 but I might be able to run some interference for kinot. I have a horrible track record so far this season when I take the time and sacrifice sleep for a game. It's not something I do often and I'm tempted to go to bed early so as to not rock the boat but there aren't any kids tomorrow and it's a fairly worthwhile game so I'm not sure I can help myself.

If everything goes south, I'll be blaming myself. Feel free to jump on the bandwagon. :P

Same thought here. I'm keen to see how he does in the big league.

I'm not so much surprised as I am disappointed. We could have called up someone who wouldn't be a waiver risk to sit on the bench.

You don't call up Holloway unless you are sure he is getting game time.

With DSP and Emelin back, doesn't that put us over a man on the roster? I haven't seen any moves yet.

P - P - D - E - G - A - F - D - W - B - F - S - H = 13 forwards (G - B - M on IR)

S - M - B - P - E - G - P - T = 8 defense

P - C = 2 goalies

Total = 23 players

Am I missing anyone? If not, we're good.

Uh......I think you're missing a "Q" and a "Z." Other than that, it's O.K.

Thank you FL, after studiously perusing Rule 17, there "is" a paragraph that deals with this particular problem.
Rule 17
Subsection 18
VIII
States that "In the event that a member would be inclined to blame themselves for any Habs loss, then Rule 17, does not apply".

Either you didn't keep reading, or you don't have the 2015-16 version of the Rule:

Rule 17
Subsection 18
VIII( a ) "In the event that a member would be inclined to blame themselves for any Habs loss, then Rule 17, does not apply".
VIII( b ) "However, if any member does blame him/herself for any Habs loss, then this, too, is kinot's fault, and kinot should -- no, MUST -- be blamed accordingly for both the Habs loss, and the unfortunate anomaly of another member trying to accept the blame."

Ugh. Watching the game on MSG. I can't stand Sam Rosen. He's one of those old, slow guys who tells you what happened about 20 seconds later, after looking up the player's names. I sure miss Gary Thorne.

I went back and watched some old ESPN broadcasts recently. It's amazing how much different everything was. Apart from the advancements in AV quality and graphics packages and whatnot, the production values seemed better back then than now. Maybe because the NHL didn't have as much of an inflated view of itself and thought it had to actually try to be watchable.

I'm just happy the game isn't blacked out tonight. I hate watching from a computer screen.

Makes moderating hard, too, unless you get all command centre with multiple monitors/computers.
