Season series: The Dallas Stars and the Montreal Canadiens split their two-game series last season, with each team winning at home. Dallas center Tyler Seguin had two goals and two assists, and linemate Jamie Benn had a goal and three assists for the Stars, who won 4-1 at American Airlines Center on Dec. 6, 2014. Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen was 1-1-0 in two starts, as was Montreal's Carey Price, who made saves on 40 of 42 shots in the Canadiens' 3-2 win at Bell Centre on Jan. 27.

Canadiens team scope: Montreal assigned forward Charles Hudon to St. John's of the AHL on Friday and recalled forward Michael McCarron. The Canadiens had a travel day following a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Montreal, which has lost six of seven, plays its next eight games on the road, including the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic against the Boston Bruins at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on New Year's Day. "I think it might be a time to get together, regroup, everyone try and feel good about themselves," Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty said Thursday. "Sometimes it works that way, where you get away from home, spend some time with the guys and you feel a bit better about your game. So maybe it's a good time for that; I hope so, and I hope we show up against Dallas." Montreal has failed to score a power-play goal (0-for-21) in its past seven games while going 1-6-0. "We dominated the majority of those games," coach Michel Therrien said. "This stretch is going to make us a better team down the road, that's why there is no internal panic. We're actually playing good hockey."

Stars team scope: Dallas coach Lindy Ruff expects a fast game against Montreal. "They skate really well, so you're going to have two teams that can get up ice, so I think it should be a good contest," Ruff told the Stars website Friday. "We've played inconsistent, and they've had a little bit of a tough time. Usually when we play it's a pretty tight affair." The Stars have lost four of their past eight games (4-2-2), including a 3-1 home loss to the Calgary Flames on Thursday. Dallas plays five of its next six games after Saturday against Central Division opponents. "We've just got to get back to our game and take a step back to remember we're a good team," center Jason Spezza said. "We haven't played as well in the last couple of weeks, but the results haven't been terrible. It's up to us to refocus and just know that we have a little stretch before Christmas, try to win out and then go into the break with a little momentum."

Not that he has scored in his last few games, but pretty much everyone is guilty of that and Andrighetto is more likely to produce than at least a few of them (ie, Byron).

Dallas is a highly offensive team, so I'm concerned we will be playing overly defensive tonight. Either way, I hope we can start this road trip off with a win.

I just hope one of our shots ends up in a goal.

We'll probably need more than one goal to win.

Hopefully we'll get a goal from ANY line.

The optimism is sure running high lately, eh?
