#22 John (All Star) Scott

Even though he's been a career goon, I do feel bad for him that he probably won't get to attend the All-star game.

I think there's a decent chance he will never play another NHL game imho which really makes me feel bad for him. He's not my kind of player but he was earning a living doing his thing & because of the joke vote he may well have had his NHL career cut short by a year or 2.

I've got to be honest, I really don't feel all that bad for Scott. Sure he's losing his job in the league, but his "job" was essentially going out to try to hurt other players (and by extension to take their jobs away). Is it unfortunate for him that his role is being phased out of the league? Yeah it is, but it's good for the league and for us as fans. I hope that he can go on to live a successful and happy life doing something else, but I won't miss him in the NHL.

I agree with you to an extent and based on your thoughts, I don't feel too bad either. What sucks, though, is the timing and the dirtiness with which it played out. His wife is expecting twins and he had a chance to collect on some of that prize money should his team have won the all-star game. More than any of the stars, that $90,000 would have made a difference for him probably.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he deserved to be at an all-star game but the NHL opened the floodgates and this is what they got. The sketchiness of his removal from the ASG leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He's paying the price for Bettman et al's stupidity and pride.

For that, I feel for the guy.

The way I see it, is "if" MB brought him up for the last game before the ASG, he would be eligible to play, but that would be thumbing MB's nose at the NHL. Conversely,,, if MB left him in the AHL, MB would effectively be agreeing with the NHL.

MB has made his own mess on this by agreeing to have Scott in the trade.

Boy they will do anything to try & get people to watch that game.

Look at it this way. What has the talk been about the ASG been in the last 3-4 weeks? John Scott,,, nothing about Kane,, Pk, Crawford or any of the other all stars. Not even that stupid ASG commercial could have pulled the viewers in to watch it. Now, people will tune in just to see him in the 3 on 3.

I just thought it was interesting to find out about Scott - from Scott's perspective - given that a lot of people are talking about him. I think it's good to hear his side of the story.

He really came across as a nice, personable guy. Very well spoken too. I loved it when he asked to get a photo of all the reporters. In some way I'm hoping the Habs call him up for a few games if for nothing more than the distraction to our current woes. Maybe MT can find a place for him on the first line with DD and Weise.
