How ironic the Habs are in a race to the BOTTOM with the Laffs.

The thing is, compared to what we have: MB & MT, I think the Laffs will actually be a contender in a short time with Brendan Shanahan, Lou Lamoriello & Mike Babcock at the helm. How can a team go wrong with professionals like this who are dedicated to winning.

Sadly a far cry from our current state of affairs. B)

To be be fair to Bergevin and Therrien, dont confuse desire with ability.

I have zero doubt that MB and MT both WANT to win. I also have no doubt both eat, sleep and breathe hockey. They think they are doing the right things. They are dedicated to winning. Im just not at all convinced that MB has what it takes to get there & im certain MT doesnt.

In my opinion, when desire conflicts with ability or actual skill, then it is only a pipe dream, and it also shows that both MB & MT should not be there, unless of course the whole philosophy has changed to a 'learn as you go' until you can actually win, which to me is unsatisfactory.

'While there’s a plethora of problems with the Habs this season, I think they can be fixed by making some trades and changing the coach. The team would have to move some players that the fans likely don’t want them to move, but that’s what happens when an organization overpays certain players. It reduces the cap space to work with and gives them few trade options.'

I know somme in the media had the final playoff spot at 98 or 95 points. I came in at 91 with the Habs maxing out at 86. If Price can play effectively for our final 10 I would change that especially as we have two games against Detroit and that is one of the teams I have at about 91 points. On the other hand no Price probably equals a much smaller chance of getting the points needed.

why , after this mess of season, would we want the Habs to make the playoffs.

Just tank, and try and get a better draft pick .

Making the playoffs just gives MB more ammunition to keep MT

Sportsclubstats puts our odds of making the playoffs at 4.5%. A loss tonight would drop that a further 1.9%, down to 2.6% odds. They predict a need for 94 points to give us a better than 50% chance of making the playoffs, meaning we'd have to go 14-4 the rest of the way to make that happen. It's not likely.

Choose your own misadventure:

Price doesn't play again this season and we finish with a high pick. Clearly, Price's influence on the team is so big that no coach could've handled losing him. Therrien is retained and starts the 2016-17 season.

Price doesn't play again this season and we finish 10th or 11th. Clearly, Michel Therrien rallied his troops back from the brink to a gutsy finish which brings a good story into training camp. Therrien is retained and starts the 2016-17 season.

Price comes back and we finish with a high pick anyway. Clearly, the damage caused by losing him was too grim to recover from and thus you can't blame the coach for it. Therrien is retained and starts the 2016-17 season.

Price comes back and we finish 9th/10th. Clearly, with the best goalie in the world this is a group that can win, and the coach deserves another chance. Therrien is retained and starts the 2016-17 season.

oh, i couldn't agree more. like i said, and i know regis has said a few times on here, my gut feeling is he is back no matter what, and its because any way this goes theres a way to spin it

the only thing working for us is us, the public pressure is huge. #firetherrien has been trending on twitter for months, the pundits have finally caught on and hes been getting the business from the press this year whereas last year, the ignorant outer circles were making excuses for him, and a lot of even our own press was giving him a pass.

fans are furious this year, and montreal has educated fans. this is their official website, and look at the sentiment on here.

i think us finishing going on a run at the end helps the MB-hes my foxhole bff-look how well we did at the end-lets give him another chance spin way too much for me to be even slightly happy about it. as i said, 10th and hes back

we need to lose lose lose the rest of the way for the pressure to stay on sufficiently enough that there is almost no choice, otherwise its spin spin sugar and its another year of DD and byron on the PP

He should have been let go a long time ago

Mike Johnston in Pittsburg and Mike Yeo in Minnesota were both let go , and their records were not as bad as MT's

I feel as though MB is going to use the CP injury as an excuse for letting MT stay on as coach next year when he should probably be looking at it ( CP's absence ) as a blessing. It allows him to see how weak the team is and how MT 's run as coach is past it's prime .

MT is delusional into believing that " our structure is good " and nothing is going to change yet the team keeps losing , more than winning and MB thinks the team is headed in the right direction.

Just give me the impression MB is going to let things unfold and then netx yr start with the same coach

Vancouver, Arizona, Columbus and Buffalo are all gaining on us. Vancouver is 4 points back with 2 games in hand; Arizona 4 points back with 1 in hand; Columbus 4 points back with no games in hand and Buffalo 5 points back with no games in hand. If they can somehow manage to pass us, we will have a great chance of drafting in the top 5 and a decent one at the top 3.

Decent night for the tank... we lost, Calgary got points, Carolina got points, Buffalo got points, Ottawa got points. Clb got nothing and Tor got nothing, but we aren't out-tanking the pitiful Leafs no matter how hard we try.

This on both. I think there's a great chance we finish top (bottom) 5 and maybe a top 3. Its incredibly unlikely we end up with less points than Toronto but unlike us, the leafs make no real bones about trying to tank. We are still sort of trying to fool our fans into thinking we arent. You have to go full force on the tank :P

And as for the above posts about MT being here in October, here are my thoughts, 1 of 3 things happens:

1) MB realizes (perhaps has all along) that MT has to go - he's fired. The reason MB waited was he felt it was not fair to bring in a new coach without price.

2) MB thinks MT is awesome but unlucky so he gets another chance. Molson doesnt interfere. MT keeps his job at least until nov-dec of next year. probably longer if price is price.

3) MB thinks MT is awesome but unlucky so he gets another chance. Molson does interfere. He steps in and fires both MT and MB.

I surely hope its scenario 1 or 3. I dont think i'll be watching for a while if its scenario 2.

As it looks right now,,,,our chances of one or more of those teams catching us seems probable. The only problem i can foresee with that scenario is if Price comes back at 100 % with 6 to a dozen games left. All bets are off if that happens.

That's been my big worry. I think the goal should be to stay in at least the top 10. It's easier to trade up a few spots from there than it is from 13-15.

Even if Price comes back , he's missed 5 or 6 months

He would have to play like last year for this team to have a chance of winning some games

Not to mention the slew of other injuries...Gallagher is out again...Potentially Gallagher and Galchenyuk...If we can somehow sneak into the top 3 and grab Jesse Puljujarvi.

Depending on where we land in the draft, your 1st round wishlist should go: Puljujarvi, Dubois, Bean, Gauthier.
