kinot-1
The Jets retain a third of Ladd's salary in the deal. Chicago also received defenseman Jay Harrison and forward Matt Fraser, who will be sent to Rockford of the American Hockey League.

Defense -- shoots LBorn Jan 25 1991 -- Saskatoon, SASK [25 yrs. ago] Height 6.05 -- Weight 238 [196 cm/108 kg] Cap hit of 3.1M, making 4.5M in salary next year. Not a good pick-up. I've watched him play a fair bit and he's a pylon. A big one, but still a pylon.

All the more reason to acquire him...If we're going to tank, might as well do it in style.

With a cap hit like that, the organization is going to be tempted to give him another chance. We don't need this season's malaise seeping over into the next. I'm more worried that MTL is going resign all our ufa's from this season to Byron like extensions because they showed "Character".

There's a not insignificant risk of that happening, but I really don't think we need to add an objectively sub-NHL-level player with multiple years remaining on his contract like Jared Cowen into the mix. I'm not sure how any bad player can be called low risk while Michel Therrien is employed. Remember Murray?

I understand what you're saying...I have yet to see any evidence where MTL is actually building through the draft as Bergevin promised back when he took over the team in 2012...We have too many fringe guys in roles that could easily be played by younger guys who have the potential to develop into bigger roles...I personally believe their needs to be a gutting of the team from management downward. BigTed3
Versteeg to LA, as predicted for a couple of days. Carolina gets Valentin Zykov and a conditional 5th. Good return for Carolina for a second-tier player (not that dissimilar from Tomas Fleischmann).
