I think MB should make a run at Trouba...It would give them a "Shea Weber 2.0" to mentor. They're going to need a right handed replacement for Weber, sooner rather than later.

1. Trouba wants to play on the right side and in the top 4, that's why he's requesting a trade out of Winnipeg. He won't be ahead of Weber or Petry here, so that means the only way to meet his "demands" is to make the mistake of using Petry on the left next to Weber.

2. The Jets supposedly want a young NHL defenceman back plus something else. Who are we giving up here? Pateryn likely isn't enough. So are we trading Beaulieu and another piece to get Trouba?

I look at Petry-Weber, Markov-Trouba as a top 4 and I'm not sure that's any better than Beaulieu-Weber, Markov-Petry.

That's fair.  Our roster looks a bit messy right now and I don't know if there are any good answers.  Any right answers.  The question I guess i truly have is:  If we finally got our big bruising D-man in Weber...Then why couldn't we have gotten that out of Tinordi?  Was it an issue with the player, coaching staff or player development?

I dont think the roster is in nearly as much of a mess as our coaching staff makes it seem.  McCarron to the minors while DD plays in his place is a perfect example.  Byron playing over Andrighetto,  Shaw on the 2nd wave PP.   These all make our roster look a lot weaker than it is - or than is might be.

As for Weber vs. Tinordi.... i think you have 2 answers:  1) Tinordi showed promise but has never looked like he'd ever even come close to Weber 2.0  2 ) Tinordi's drug issues and off ice antics look like they may have really stalled his career.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is at Avs-Stars game tonight

Couple of thoughts on the Avs:

- they re-signed Tyson Barrie but probably aren't happy with having to give him a contract. Might still be available in trade, although we don't really need a righty at this point.

- Wonder if Grigorenko, now that his minor league coach Roy is gone, could be on the outs there soon. He'd be a reclamation project like Yakupov, but could still be worth a look.

- Always have to wonder if he's looking at a Quebecer like Beauchemin

- Matt Duchene has been in trade rumors over the past year. But for us to move for him would require dealing away someone like Plekanec, and I'm not sure that's a fit for Colorado.

One could only hope. I'd love to see that trade off.

floated it last year, ill float it again this year. would you do it for patches, straight up?

Tough call. Pacioretty plays a position where we are incredibly weak behind him, whereas we have some depth at center. Pacioretty also makes a lower salary. Duchene is a touch younger and is still signed to a reasonable deal long-term for a 30-goal scorer. I disliked what I saw from Pacioretty last year, even though he was scoring goals. His defensive play was suspect, his effort on many nights was lacking. So my short answer is yes, today, I would make that trade, with the caveat that I think you need to find a way to move Plekanec in a separate deal to find LW help.

TSN,,,, Carey practiced with Waite,,, and not his teammates. Perhaps not playing on Tues.

This is getting a bit annoying. Frankly the timing couldn't have been worse. If this goes on beyond Tues it will look quite suspect IMO. Either that or Price's health is very fragile at best.

If it's true he has the flu (and I don't yet see any reason to believe it's not true) then so far it's been pretty normal. Keep in mind that recovery means very different things to average people and professional athletes. When I'm sick I'm usually only home for a day or two since I only need to recover enough to walk to the bus and sit in class.  Price needs to recover to the point he can play pro sports for hours while wearing 20 pounds of gear that traps heat and causes you to sweat like crazy. You can't really rush back to that after being dehydrated with the flu.

I think the odds are that Price really does have the flu, and that's fine. The funny things are

1. He got antibiotics for a virus.

2. His "flu" is lasting a lot longer than the ones that kept Pacioretty and Byron and other out.

3. No one owes MB and MT any trust after the lies they told us last year. When you lie repeatedly, no one's going to believe you even if you're telling the truth.

talk on HNIC that Habs will eventually send Mikhail Sergachev down .

But they are looking for another D Man who can step right in to take some of the workload off Weber and Markov .

Said Weber was tired at the end of last year .

Well, MT is your coach , he will play you forever .

I don't know, I think we have enough depth at D. I would much rather move assets for forwards. Even Emelin seems to be playing well again, Beaulieu and Markov too... am I missing something? I think this has more to do with MT's trust issues.

According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the Habs are looking to add top-four defenseman via trade in order to take some of the load off of the team's veteran defenseman. It is believed that Montreal is concerned with the amount of ice time being logged by D-men Shea Weber and Andrei Markov

I don't know what's wrong with Beau and Petry,,,, they seem to be doing OK.
