2016-17 The Rumors Thread

1. Price will be fine. I doubt he's got a key injury, I think he's just fighting the puck a bit right now. Lundqvist has gone through the same thing this year. MAF goes through stretches like this all the time. Price will be fine. He is not the problem going forward. I don't think it's reasonable to expect a .935 save percentage, but nor do I think a .900 save percentage is going to last either. Price should be able to give us a .925 to .930 save percentage, which means that if we continue to play good hockey (which we have been outside of the last two games), we should need to score 3 goals to win most games.

2. On the above trade proposal, it's interesting to me. Sergachev and McCarron are the two prospects we probably most want to hold onto IMO, one being a potentially elite top pairing defenceman and the other being a style of player that's rare and that we can't really replace within the organization right now. But the fact is that McCarron is more likely to become Brian Boyle than he is Joe Thornton or Milan Lucic. Beaulieu is looking like he may remain a 2nd-pairing defenceman and not more than that, maybe more akin to Tom Gilbert or possibly a Mike Green/Brian Rafalski if we get really lucky with his development. But again, I'm not counting on more than 2nd pairing at this point because his progression is a little behind the curve of what we'd hope to see by now. And so frankly, the question is whether we're willing to give up the potential of three young players for the potential of one young player and a current top-pairing D man.

Ekman-Larsson is probably a top 20 D man in the league. He's largely underrated because he plays in a city with little exposure and because he's played on really bad teams. But this player has put up decent possession numbers and he's been a 20-goal scorer from the back end a couple of times. Now it's quite possible that Sergachev becomes a better player than OEL, but OEL is a known commodity and MS is an unknown, potentially better but potentially worse. Given the Price window to win is now, adding OEL could be a key piece, and he's only 25, not a past-his-prime guy like Weber. I would love to subtract Duclair from the deal and try to get OEL for less... maybe Mac and Juulsen, for example. But I think this is worth looking into.

Habs have 2 scouts at the NYR-Tor game tonight. Doubtful they're looking at dealing with the Rangers, but hard to make a deal within your own division too. One might wonder if they're scouting JVR although a part of me is afraid they might be looking at Bozak or Kadri.

I'm not really interested in Duclair either to be honest but I do see the appeal. Still, trading for Ekman-Larsson would be absolutely amazing and I'd definitely be willing to include Sergachev in that deal. Realistically, I think of Sergachev as a long-term replacement for Markov, so why not speed up the process and acquire that replacement right now, i.e. while Price and Pacioretty are still signed to reasonable deals? Not really sure what Arizona wants/needs, but we'd definitely have to add some salary. Emelin plus Sergachev for OEL straight up? Add a second rounder if need be? Would they want more?

OEL-Weber

Beaulieu-Petry

Markov-Pateryn

Looks very strong to me hockey-wise, probably not enough grit and sandpaper considering who's running operations tough.

Emelin + Sergachev for OEL would be a dream.  Dont know it would work for Arizona but it would give us one heck of a blueline. Man, it was only a couple of years ago our Blueline had Boullion and Murray in the top 6.  Yikes.

Yeah, the good old days. I really miss seeing Frank the Tank actually getting PP time under Therrien :P

Seriously though, I'd also be okay with Sergachev, Emelin plus our 1st rounder this year for OEL if that's what it's going to take. We need to win now, not 3 years down the road.

I'll take anything for him and I mean ANYTHING!!!

Yeah i mean i dont think the return would be great, obviously.  A 7th rounder or a career AHLer would be fine because otherwise MT will over-rely on DD once again as soon as anyone in front of him has a mini slump. i could see us enquiring about a guy like Smid, Versteeg or Stajan.   Would personally rather just take a pick or a prospect though.

My fear is that team foxhole would be reluctant to trade DD, but considering how Danault has evolved positively as a player, they would already have their token French player in Danault to satisfy the French media's political thirst in Montreal.

Two trades to get us the line up we need to go along way in the play-offs. Trade Desharnais, Pateryn & Carr for Alex Goligoski.
Then trade Plekanec, Beaulieu and Hudon for Matt Duchene and Eric Gelinas.

Our line up looks like this Pacioretty, Duchene, Gallagher
Lehkonen, Galchenyuk, Radulov
Byron, Danault, Shaw
De La Rose, Mitchell, Flynn (Andrighetto)
D- Weber - Goligoski
Emelin - Petry
Markov - Gelinas/Barberio

Re Hanzal,,,, from EOTP: The asking price of Michael McCarron, a first-round pick, and a conditional pick appeared to be a bit too steep for Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin .

The Canadiens have been closely tied to the Coyotes in trade rumours all season, with names such as Hanzal, Anthony Duclair, and Shane Doan being mentioned at various points.

So far this season Hanzal has scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 39 games.

McCarron plus a 1st rounder and a conditional pick? For Hanzal?
