Re Hanzal,,,, from EOTP: The asking price of Michael McCarron, a first-round pick, and a conditional pick appeared to be a bit too steep for Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin .

The Canadiens have been closely tied to the Coyotes in trade rumours all season, with names such as Hanzal, Anthony Duclair, and Shane Doan being mentioned at various points.

So far this season Hanzal has scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 39 games.

What the heck?

Hanzal wasnt worth that back in his "prime" years -let alone now.  TBH i think you could argue that Mike McCarron is as good a player right now as Hanzal is, if you gave him the same ice time/linemates - let alone where he'll be.  And then add a 1st etc on top of it??? Madness.

BTW, in 11 NHL seasons he's never played 82 games.  He averaged 70-80 in his first 3 seasons and since then he's been between 40 - 60 games per year.  Dude is a walking injury. Benoit Brunet V2.0

Eklund says we're in on Eberle.

He's a good player and obviously if the price was right id be interested but i still feel like there's a slam dunk in edmonton by the name of Ryan Nugent Hopkins.  Eberle would cost more, is several years older and imho doenst have the ceiling of RNH.

Bergevin has to win now and go at least a couple of rounds in the Real Season. He has to prove the moves he made were worth it. But maybe the biggest reason they need to go deep is because if they don’t, there is one very important person who’s not going to be a happy camper. His name is Carey Price and there’s only one thing he wants in life — a Stanley Cup ring. And if he thinks it isn’t going to happen with the Canadiens, he will walk out the door at the end of next season. So management has to prove they’re serious about winning this thing.

My honest take is we go all in for Duchene. Obviously discounting the "untouchables"... but our lineup right now + Duchene is actually pretty dang strong.

We've stayed near the top of the standings all year with a handful of big injuries. Weber and Price aren't getting any younger. Sure we can make the playoffs and maybe make a push, but can we WIN? Can we outplay 7 games against Sid and Malkin? Stepan and Z? Backstrom and Kuznetsov? Is Duchene enough to answer "yes" to that question? I think it gives us a much, much better chance.

An article I found on fansided proposes the following trade:

To MTL:

Matt Duchene

To COL:

Plekanec, Hudon. Sergachev, 2017 1st and 2nd.

Yeah, I know. Holy. BUT, Duchene is the real deal. He's 26 years old. He's consistently 60% on faceoffs. The guy is a true competitor. He'd eat this Montreal limelight right up. I'm willing to bet his game would excel here for a contending team and would bring us 30 goals/year for years to come.

I understand Sergachev has an incredibly high ceiling and could be an elite D for a decade. The big question is, will we be contenders then? He will be (in about two years) what Galchenyuk, Price, Pacioretty and Weber are for us right now. For MTL, would you make the trade? If you were Joe Sakic, would you sign?

It would be worth it if we want the Cup THIS year IMO. However I'd subtract the 1st & 2nd round picks from our side to see if they bite.

I dont think adding Matt Duchene is going to make the Canadiens THAT much better , and I sure wouldn't mortgage the future for him . In the past lots of teams added players at the trade deadline > Chicago last yr added a bunch of guys at the deadline and it didnt' help them. Need to get hot as the playoffs roll around and get great goaltending ,

I d change coaches if there was someone else available :6280:

Bergevin seems to be very measured in the amount of risk he is willing to take and appears to do his homework before making a move. I have a hard time finding a move where the risk was too high or the reward too low and getting Nesterov for that price tells me there is a lot more going on with this player, Perhaps Rad and some other countrymen will help Nesterov fit in,

I would prefer RNH over Ebbs by a wide margin, but we do not have too many veterans to swing that move as some have little room left on their contracts. The Oil will be looking to add some players with playoff experience that can add some depth to their line-up and I am sure they would love to get Sergachev for their backend. So I don't think Ebbs is a good addition at almost any cost and acquiring RNH would require us to replace his scoring. I think the asking price would involve Gallagher and one or two other players or picks, or perhaps a Mitchell or a Shaw  put together with a  Carr and a pick or two pick thrown in. I think it is too soon to look at giving up on Shaw or to use someone like Dannault (who looks like a great replacement for Plecky down the road here). I see RNH as very similar to a Plekanec which may make him attractive to Bergevin. With the emergence of Draisaitl at centre not too far away RNH will definitely be expendable.

IMO, we don't need another softie.

Not sure if this is the right spot for this, but...

This is the statistical result of me playing every game at the FULL 20-minute length on "All-Star" in NHL 17. I also had "Auto Save" enabled so I couldn't close-application and restart any games. If you quit a game in process it automatically simulates the remainder and auto saves. A few notes...

NHL has a "Potential System". This is affected by age, streaks, morale, contracts, and of course the pre-determined blanket calculation of the player's potential by EA. For Example, Sergachev jumped from a 77 to an 84 as an 18 year old in one season. Almost all player overall ratings increased +/- 2.

Yeah, I know. I threw some picks away that I probably didn't have to. However, the level of play was much higher than I anticipated. I think I did alright, but some games were seriously nail-biters. Especially those Game 7's in the playoffs, holy shit.

It took a long time, but it was actually a really thought provoking experience. I had to manage contracts, call-ups, call player meetings, meet with players individually, address morale issues, make a profit at home games and tend to the cleanliness of the rink as it directly effects "Fan Happiness", and much more. There were some cool cinematic moments throughout the season; such as individual player milestones and standing related bits from the commentators.

I don't know haha I figured some of you guys would think this was interesting (more than my wife did, anyway).

gohabsgo.com/2017/02/03/a-pretty-surprising-rumour-involving-alex-galcheny/

The three experts made some extremely interesting remarks last night concerning the Montreal Canadiens, notably with Dreger who said that Marc Bergevin was going all in on the season and was very interested in Martin Hanzal who plays center for the Arizona Coyotes....

The veteran Coyotes forward would bring depth to the center position for the Habs and Chucky would play the role of second winger behind Max Pacioretty which would have a much more balanced top six.... a line made up of Chucky, Hanzal and Gallagher would be rather interesting.

*******************************************************************
I wouldn't mind somehow including Shaw to facilitate a trade with Colorado for either Duchene or Landeskog rather than Hanzal from the Yotes

Pacioretty - Danault - Radulov

Galchenyuk - Duchene or Landeskog - Gallagher

Lehkonen - Plekanec - Byron

Even with Hanzal the team may be better than it is currently... but there is still a problem with Desharnais on the roster.
