but I'd be very cautious making claims the way some media have that the Habs have become an elite team

I'll surprised if any discerning fan is delusional enough to drink the media kool aid :4224:.  The eye test doesn't lie.

What's really scary is the foxhole trio actually believe it is true :6396:,  patting themselves at the back and influencing their next trade/coaching/tactical choices.

What is up with Yakupov? Should the Habs approach St. Louis about a trade that could see both Yakupov and Desharnais being swapped? Would you be interested to see Nail playing with Galchenyuk and Radulov?

Ya, I heard he was benched for their last game.

I would think acquiring Yakupov would definitely benefit him.  Radulov, I would think would be nothing but a positive influence on him.  A former 1st rounder who had a rocky start to his career.  If you can get him for Desharnais, then good.

Interesting, but would MB do it?

How long is Hartnell signed for? We have Shaw for 6 years.

Despite Shaw's slow start, I'd rather have him as an unknown quantity for those 4 years than Hartnell as we know him for the next two. I'd honestly prefer neither, but that's not where we're at.

After a good start to the season he's really tanked in St Louis.

I suspect they (The blues) would move him for very little (DD) but I am not sure if there would be a very good fit with MT.

I suppose one could approach Chucky & see what he thought.   If there was a potential for magic a 1st line of Yakupov - Chucky - Radulov would be pretty mesmerizing.

Habs have to take a serious look at acquiring him IMO.

I understand the cost would probably be quite low (at worst a 2nd rounder, at best a guy like DD off the books) but do you really think he'd be given a fair chance by MT?

I suppose the reward outweighs the risk, I just cant help but feel he wont be given a chance to prove his value if we were to do it.

I say it is worth the risk as the reward could mean parting ways with Desharnais. How MT would use him is another story that may require pressure from Bergevin and Molson to force him into a top-six role (preferably with Galchenyuk and Radulov).

It would have to be lower than a 2nd round pick. He did great in Juniors yes. That doesn't always translate to the NHL first overall or not. Hitchcock has been around awhile and St. Louis could use scoring but he's benching him. I'm sure there's more to meet the eye as it is said. I don't know how you could guarantee to play him in the top six. I think he would have to earn his way up.

Not sure why we would want to bring a guy who cannot make the Oilers or Blues to a team that is supposedly coached by the worst coach in the league and expect something different or better grom Yakupov. Yakupov  would not break this line-up. He is a very one dimensional player and that doe s not bod well for him on this team or in this league. Therrien likes to use guys in a variety of roles and has been doing so since he got here. If you cannot adapt you usually don't play. I get the Galchenyuk piece but with Radulov on that line now not sure he fits. I would give a fourth rounder for himbut don;t see St. Louis giving him away either

He does seem like a bust so far and one dimensional... however playing with two other Russian players may make all the difference. Granted he has seemed to be a defensive liability, which probably explains why some of his coaches don't play him.

Well and the thing is, having watched him quite a bit when he was with the oilers, I wouldnt even say he is a lazy player defensively. He just seems to have really poor hockey sense. if he doesnt have the puck in a shooting lane, he seems to have no idea where to go/be. Without the puck he's a disaster.

I suppose there's a possibility you get him to play a north south game and 'go to the slot' but you couldnt ever rely on him on your first line because his vision is so poor.

My guess is that (if he doesnt retire/get forced out before then) he will probably have a bit of a rebirth in a couple of years playing on some team's 2nd or 3rd line, away from defensive responsibilities where he can just drive to the net and chip in 30 goals as a secondary scorer.  Ask him to do more than that & I think he's going to fail.   Dont see MB trading for him at this point so its moot.

If MB wants a top 4 D-man, cough up the $$$ and get Dougie Hamilton.  But the team has no cap space for it.  More importantly, knowing BargainBin, it's just not going to happen.

I don't think there's a real need for a guy like Dougie Hamilton here, who's yet another RD. Also, didn't Calgary trade three very high draft picks for him only a year ago? Given his numbers from last season, I don't think he's to be had for cheap.
